Alante 29s vs Redhawk 31XL

Went to the recent RV show in Pomona, CA this and walked every single Class A and Class C in our price range. We liked most of the Jayco floor plans and have decided on the 2 we liked best. Apparently the 29s Class A floor plan is brand new and I can’t find any information online about. The Redhawk is $10,000 cheaper but I’d have to add the leveling system which is about a $3k option. Anybody have any experience with the other Alante’s? How have you liked it? Any issues? Does anybody with a Redhawk wish you got a Greyhawk instead?

Thank you,

Andrew

We went from a Redhawk 26XD to an Alante 31v (we liked that floor-plan because both the couch and dinette are across from the TV).

We went from a C to an A because we both are getting kind of creaky and painful joints, and didn't want to climb in and out of the class C cab anymore. So far we love the Alante, and all that we added was the taller porcelain toilet, thermostatically controlled vent fan, and spare tire and carrier.

The handling is good if we keep the tires at 100 pounds, and keep as much weight forward as possible. Oh, and we added the Roadmaster steering stabilizer for safety.

Kind of looks like our mind was made up for us. I need to tow a 20ft enclosed trailer and the Alante doesn’t allow enough towing capacity but the Class C does. 7500 to 5000. Now we will have to go see the Red and Grey hawk and go from there.

Hmmm, that's odd... the dealer told us that the towing capacity on the 2018 Alante was 7,500 pounds, with a 750 pound hitch weight.

Alante vs Greyhawk

We have a 2016 Greyhawk 31DS and love it. Had a usual issues as all Rv’ers do but Jayco has been very responsive to getting them corrected. We are now going to trade us to a class A. We looked at the Alante and liked the floor plan. Only downside, and big to us, is it only has the JRide. Our Greyhawk has the JRide Plus which is a much much nicer ride and handling. So since the Alante doesn’t have the Plus we are going for the Precept. The 450 engines tend to be noisy and down shift often. Easy remedy to those issues. We tow a Honda CRV without any problems. MHO would be to go for the Greyhawk if it’s a C you like or the Precept if an A.

Thanks for the advice. We were trying to avoid the Precepts. They’re getting a little out of the price range we’d like to be in. If I may ask, what’s the reason going to a class C? How old was your class C?

Our C

Picked it up in January ‘16. We are traveling four months of the year right now and likely more in future. Felt we just. Needed more space and a few more amenities that you don’t get in a class C. Otherwise was very happy with it. Gpoing to trade it in unless someone wants to buy it for 67,000. Mint condition. Just 12,000 miles. Few upgrades.

Here is a nickle's worth of free advise. We were in a Greyhawk we were perfectly happy with and moved up to the Precept 31 UL. One look at that windshield and opposing slides did it. No regrets.

This is where I found the 7,500 pound towing capacity (apparently went up with the 3 valve V10)...

By the way, the reason that we've never gotten the Greyhawk or Precept was because we sometimes dry camp, and the tank-less water heater just doesn't work well when using the pump (and when we're in a campground, we'd rather use their electric, rather than our propane).
