Great info. We were just up in Texas to cover the Red Bull Last man Standing motorcycle race.

We pulled out just as the rain was starting and headed south. Our friend who was heading home to Moab headed North and into the storm that blanketed much of the Mid-West with ice.

Crossing a bridge, he hit black ice and when he saw the toy hauler come up beside him, he knew he was in for a wild ride.

He said after coming around on both sides of the tow vehicle, he crossed the median into oncoming traffic and back across the median before he could get the rig under control.

When he finally pulled over on the side of the road, his awning had come loose and was flapping in the wind, traffic was stopped in all directions, and everything in the toy hauler had turned upside down.

Luckily no one was hurt, and except for all the cupboards coming open which shattered all the dishes and anything else inside of them, an hour later and a clean pair of undies and he was back on the road.

This site would have come in handy that day! I'll make sure to forward it to him!

Thanks
Pat

As stated before, this site will not help except to report GENERAL conditions that probably came off a computer generated model. For instance, last week I-5 had 8-10 feet of water over it in Lewis County, WA for 4-5 days and this source reported only temp. and % chance of rain...

This link will be a much better link. It will take you to the Federal Highway Administration webpage that has a clickable map of each state road closure. It also has links to the road cams in the state.

I would suggest that all RVers bookmark the link.

Good luck and safe Holiday Travels to all....

RVRONINPA, thanks for the information, but this year we will not be heading home for Christmas, were going to say in warm and sunny Florida. Ed.S

jfb, you're right. Nothing beats using a little common sense when driving under precarious conditions. When I left OKC last Sunday, I was well aware of the ice (Understatement) and just drove at "Grampa" type speeds 'till I came out of it. I've taken the approach that MY life and MY rig are more important than anything else on the road and I drive accordingly. The kids will just have to slow down or go around me.
