Driving Lessons

We just finished 2 days of driving lessons with Chuck Urwiller from the RV Driving School (RVSchool.com, email is info@rvdrivingschool.com). Being newbies, and I mean newbies, having never owned a coach of any kind before, we have nothing to compare him or the school to, but we thought Chuck and the RV Driving School were excellent. We spent about 13 hours with Chuck and drove probably close to 400 miles over 2 days. Lots of time on 2 lane roads, 4 lane roads, getting on and off the interstates, driving on the interstates, driving through towns, backing, simulated backing into a campsite, and more. He even showed us the protocol to refuel at a truck stop and we had the good fortune of refueling for the first time. In addition to the driving, Chuck spent a lot of time going over the coach with us, sharing tips from things he has learned over the years as a full timer currently in a Monaco tag axle coach. This included brake tests, tire pressure, weight distribution, simple maintenance tips, etc. Chuck was extremely professional and patient, and we can’t imagine someone being more knowledgeable or wanting to share his knowledge and experiences with us as much as Chuck did. We clearly got our monies worth and have absolutely no reservations recommending Chuck or the school.

For those of you who might be interested, Chuck spends his falls, football season, and mid-January through the Final Four, basketball season, in the Gainesville area. It would be an understatement to say he is a huge Gator fan. I mention this because it is a pretty good bet where he will be during football and basketball season for anyone interested in driving lessons with him and who also happen to be in the Gainesville area during this time. If interested, we recommend that you not wait until the last minute to try and book a class with him.

Good luck. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks for posting this. You are smarter than the average newbie . I'm sure this will enhance your initial experience. There's always someone looking for a good driving school.

We are going to do the LDs freebie as well, but as you probably already know, a major difference between the freebie and the RV Driving school is that the freebie consists of a drive around the parking lot in the campground. The RV Driving school includes about 400 miles of road experience.

That's the next step when we get back to NC in April. We need a Class B license there, not quite a CDL, but close to it. We have the book.
