Feel'n Kinda Dumb

Hi folks,

Thought I would pass along one of my "ah ha" moments. My wife and I have always felt the exhaust fan over our burner top (GE Profile Spacemaker Oven) did not work worth a darn. It never seemed to move much air. Well yesterday I was waxing the coach near the exterior vent to the exhaust fan and low and behold I found the exterior vent was closed. TS used a vent in my '05 42DS04 that has a latchable flap. It cannot be seen unless you are up close as it is painted the same as the rest of the vent. I opened the vent flap by moving the retainer levers. I then had a revelation: can't move air unless the passage is open. I tried the fan and it now moves alot of air. This flap had to have been this way from the factory because I have never closed it and no one else has worked in this area. In fact it looked like it had never been opened.

Moral of the story: Sometimes it pays to leave the doors open.

Hope this helps someone else.

Any and all of us who own MH,s have had those moments at one time or another. I wish my vent had a latch, as I have to put a piece of foam in mine to keep it from rattling while going down the road or on a very windy day while camped. Then I must remember the foam is in place. And my memory seems to get shorter each year. Main thing is we enjoy our MH,s in spite of their short comings.

I thought mine was the same way but after I unlatched the flap it almost fell out because its not connected opens at the top, thats where it lets the air out.
at least thats the way our 2008 Envoy is.

Are you sure it opens at the top? That would allow it to flop open virtually all the time, so I just can't see it being that way. My '07 has the hinge pins along the top, allowing the bottom to open when the fan is blowing air. Of course, you want those retainer tabs holding the flap closed during travel and in cold weather.

Get up there on a ladder and check to see if the plastic "pins" at each upper corner aren't broken, which would allow the flap to "FLOP" when undoing those tabs. Mine broke on me and I bought another housing at a parts store, removed the flap and installed it in the OEM housing. Another way to fix is to glue a welding rod along the top of the flap so it serves as a hinge.
