Just bought a 2006 Travel Supreme 42DS04. Haven't picked it up yet, so I can't try my GPS.

I have a Garmin nuvi 850 that works great in a car. Has anyone tried a nuvi in a Travel Supreme motorhome? Will it get good reception on the dash?

Where do you place it so it's easy to see, gets good reception, and not in the way of driving?

Thanks,
Tom

I have a Garmin 200W that I use in my Class C motorhome and it works great. I put it in the top left corner of my windshield and the reception there is fine.

Tom, I have a GPS built into my dash. But I also run a Nuvi 780 on top of the dash, using the Garmin beanbag mount sitting just to the right of the CB mount. It works just fine up there...never have had a problem. It even works somewhat inside the coach in the living room, depending on what shades are down.

Good info thanks to all.

Slabman, I saw that you have a 45' RV. I have another post asking if anyone has had problems with RV's longer than 41' driving in the US or Canada. Have you driven this rig in Canada? Any problems?

Thanks,
Tom

No, I have not driven in Canada, but am not aware of any restrictions. Were were going to pass through Canada on the way to Alaska last year, but health problems nixed that idea. We've taken this rig from Texas to Florida and west to California and haven't had any issues with the length. You will be limited in places to camp at some locations, but our technique is to keep it on the main roads, using the toad to travel to the tighter spots. Now, having said that, I've taken this coach over some passes in Colorado that others fear to travel, so I don't think you'll regret the length, considering all the benefits it provides.

Great help - thanks.

Spikester & scepter - do you use a separate remote antenna or just the one built into the GPS? Use friction pad on dash or suction cup on widshield? Does the friction pad move around or stay in one place?

Thanks,
Tom

Use the built-in antenna and the suction cup on the dash

I use a Garmin 2610 in my toad, and have used it several times on the dash of the MH when the very expensive OEM Alpine unit did not have detail where we were headed. My "portable" satellite radio with antenna lying on the dash has problems sometimes in the MH, but the Garmin has never had any problems at all.

I have a Garmin 7200 (has a big screen) and I use the bean bag and place it just to the right of center so I can see it and my wife can look up info as well. I take the unit in my jeep and it sits in the center console and the reception is still good. They make an auxiliary antenna that I did buy buy I don't think it was necessary.
