I finally dug into this today, and realized that I have space in the top compartment for 2 more house batteries, and i can fit 2 directly below in a fabbed box. I could theoretically move the 2 chassis batteries down, but I can't fit 4 house batteries into the tray so I'm really not gaining much. On the plus side, I discovered that the previous owner upgraded all the batteries to AGM (2 x Deka 12v 92ah chassis and 4 x Deka 6v 190ah house), so that was a nice plus. I'll also start another thread, but is there an issue mixing old (2 years or so) AGM batteries with new as there is with standard wet cell?

never mix batteries, all batteries need to be changed at the same time as an old and new combo will only be as good as the worst battery. AGM typically have a different charge charge setting on your charger

Jim, I still think you should look into re-fabbing that upper tray to fit 8 batts up there. The 2 chassis batts can go down below.

But don't just think you have "upgraded" batteries just because of the AGM type. You need to look at the amp-hr ratings of the AGM's. The usual RV wet cells have a 210-220 A-H rating; you may find yours aren't that high, even if they are maintenance-free.

Look up Trojan batteries-the T105 model and check the measurements. After doing some math you'll be able to figure if 8 batts will fit up there. Most of the wet cells will be of those dimensions, although I believe Trojans are something like 1/4 in. taller.

I have two trays each with 4 batteries and then another tray below and right with the 3 chassis batteries.
