After about 9 years of faithful service the 42 in. Plasma TV in the living area finally committed suicide. I bought an LCD TV to replace it and then the problem started. I can't get the Plasma off the wall. Two of us worked for 1/2 hr. one day trying to lift it off and couldn't get it to budge. We finally figured out that there is a screw/bolt that holds the two parts of the TV wall mounting bracket together.

This is located in what would be the middle of the TV at the rear. This means that you need a flashlight and a mirror to see it, since there is only about 4 in. or so of clearance between the bottom of the TV and the counter underneath it. This puts it about 15 inches away from the mirror which then makes it hard for these old eyes to see it well. Even with a really good flashlight it is hard to tell what the bolt configuration is. We originally thought that it was a "button head" allen style hex. Subsequent attempts with both metric and standard allens were useless.

I looked at it closer(at least as close as you can get) and it appears to be a pentagon shaped(5 sided) recess rather than the hex that I originally thought.

Anybody run across this problem yet?

@The Berry's, Thanks for the link. I bought a similar kit from Griot's Garage that has the same bits in it. Unfortunately none fit.

@RV Wizard, Thanks for the warm welcome!

Our 2005 42DSO4 had a V shaped bracket mounted to the wall. Seems like there was a long handle Allen type tool in the coach but there was no screw. We began lifting one side of the tv then the other, placing books as spacers, slowly working the tv up till the tv bracket cleared the wall mount. Make sure all your cables are completely loose. It will be much heavier than you think so have plenty of help when it clears. Ours had a slot to the roof for clearance but I have read some cases where the bottom of a shelf had to be removed. Hope this helps.
