Help with Whitehawk's iRV6500BT Media Unit
I'm on the first shakedown trip with a new Whitehawk and am curious about media connections on the above media unit. The Jensen TV is cabled from Audio Line Out to the media unit's Audio Line In. But I can't find out how to run the TV's audio through the media unit and main speaker system. Tried all modes but no joy so far. iRV's manual makes no mention that I can find of how to select audio from Line In (although diagram shows the jacks). Any help is finding out what I'm missing would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same iRV unit in my 2015 Jayco Pinnacle. I hope I can explain this adequately. The audio cable needs to be a digital coax cable with ends that allow the cable to be inserted into the "audio in" depression. This is what holds the end in tightly. The regular RCA audio cables or digital audio cable with regular RCA ends will not work. This is because the cable end does not fit into the depression and are made to fit over an RCA nub. What happens is the cable end only goes in partially and there is nothing to prevent the cable from slipping out of the connection. I found a cable that worked at Radio Shack. The more expensive gold cables will not work, the ends are too thick to fit in the depression.
When you have the correct cable fully inserted into that depression, the iRV will automatically send the sound through the RV speaker system. It automatically goes to the correct setting on the menu. I cannot remember what what the display says, but it is the one right before aux 1. I will look at it tomorrow, if you need the actual wording on the display.
I hope this helps. It took be days to figure this out.

dbonney,
Thank you for the detailed answer. My unit is currently in winter storage so I'll need a little time to get the cable you recommended and check it out. I am not sure that the minimal sound quality of the audio system is worth too much effort, but your solution is pretty simple to do, so I'm sure I'll give it a try. As an aside, I posted the same message on another Jayco board and rec'd a reply direction from a Jayco rep. He said they hadn't been able to get that function to work. I thought that was strange, but given the surprising lack of detail in any of the user documentation, I guess even the Jayco folks are having trouble figuring it out. Kudos to you for solving it.
Thanks again for your effort.

tsmclane,
See the detailed answer from dbonney and my reply. He seems to have found the solution, but it will take a few days to check it out. I'll leave feedback on my effort after that.

dbonney,
Follow-up question on your solution:
I'll check with RadioShack, but my RS store personnel have, so far, been a bit underwhelming in their tech knowledge of cable nuances. I'm wondering if there is a way to visually identify the type you used (vs. regular digital coax cables) by looking at the package. Or, per chance, do you still have the packaging to check out the SKU or model number of the cable. Any follow-up would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I do not have the packaging. First, Jayco did not even have a cable from the TV digital audio out to the iRV audio in. They had a HDMI from the iRV to to the Jenson TV. However, I assume their HDMI does not carry audio. It must be early HDMI technology.
The cable I got from Radio Shack was the only type my Radio Shack had in stock. The first cable I tried was a top of the line cable from Monoprice, bought from Amazon. The cable end was too large to fit into the depression around the audio in. The plug could only go partially in the opening and would pull out from vibration. It was prevented from going into the depression because the end was too thick (large).
I had never seen a connection of this type without the colored nubs as on RCA connectors. It required the RCA end to go into the the depession for the plug to be fully seated.
Hope this helps.

sound quality
I used a aux audio cable from tv to irv sound system but the sound has an echo when using both tv and sound system speakers. It worked ok on another tv we had but not this new one. My tv only has one audio out instead of two like the first tv had. Could this be the problem and is there anything I can do to get better sound.

If you are sure the television's Audio Out cable is plugged into the Audio In connections in the back of the head unit, you should hear the TV though the unit if you select External Speakers in the Jensen setup.
I have a 2015 Jayco White Hawk 25 BHS that came with a 32 inch Jensen 120 volt (Model JE3214) television and iRV6500BT head unit. This past weekend I switched out the TV with a 32 inch 12 volt Jensen (Model 3214LED) and am very happy with the picture quality but I want the highest quality picture possible so I'm now planning to replace the supplied composite A/V cable with a component cable because the head unit does not have an HDMI connection. I'll also install an Audio cable from the TV to the head unit because mine did not come with the cable. Since I'm already working on the new TV and head unit I've decided to install a fully articulating mounting bracket so we can sit at the dinette and get a full frontal view of the television instead of a slightly cutoff side view.
BTW, if you have the same model Jayco, you can remove the TV by reaching up under the TV with both hands about six inches from the center on each side and pulling the levers forward toward the back of the TV. They are really far up so you need long fingers to reach them.

AKGPerson,
Thank you for your comments. I finally decided to replace the TV, not only for sound reasons, but also to have 12v use available (my Jensen was not a 12v). I'll be using the supplied Jensen as a secondary outside TV.
My White Hawk is currently in winter storage, so I won't be able to get to the various suggestions for a few more weeks, but will check them out.
I am also considering the addition of a powered sound bar to sit below the TV since the ceiling externals are just basic sound without much bass. I'm not trying to create a higher end sound system, just one that is somewhat more pleasing.
I'm doing a number of customizations to the trailer, so this will be just one more.
Thanks again to all who have commented.

AKGPerson,
Thank you again for your detailed answer. I am now back to working on my issue, and I too changed out the TV for a 12-volt. You mentioned that you were changing from the A/V composite connection to a component-cable set. I don't see a component connection on my
6500BT Head Unit diagram. Doesn't it only have composite connection, or am I not correct? Did you use another cable configuration (aka some type of adaptation) to achieve the component connection. And last, in your new setup, did you use standard audio cables from TV to Audio in on the head unit (vs. some other type as others have suggested)? Thanks again for taking the time.
