Line for Fax Machine????

Totally new in my Jayco Greyhawk 29KS. AND I LOVE IT!!! I have just gotten a job offer where I must have a fax machine. I have looked around for where a telephone line would come into my unit from the outside but can't see one. Or maybe I am just so old and that isn't the way it is done anymore! HA! Wondered if anyone knew how this would work - I need a land line, right? Does my Greyhawk have that capability?

Thanks for any help!

Line for Fax Machine????

Sign up for one of the internet based fax services. You get your own fax number.

I believe pasdad1 has the right answer. YOU need a printer in case you actually need a hard copy of something. Let one of the online folks handle the faxing for you.

Thank you so much for the information. I will need to be faxing art/grahpics sometimes. So there is no "telephone land line" capability in these rigs, huh?

Well, there MAY be the appropriate connections - but think about what you're saying with 'land line'. The way a land line works is your phone number is connected to a specific set of contacts in a giant box with a gazillion wires coming out of it. It's a hardwire coming into your house. If you move to a different house you have to get the phone company to work some magic so that your phone number will ring at the new house.
There's no way for a TRUE land line to follow your RV because 'Ma Bell' just won't know where to route the signal.

I presume someone has invented a fax machine that has a cell phone built in, or somehow connects to one - though I'm not sure about that.

Even VOIP 'land line' phones that connect through the internet at someone's house ultimately run through some sort of wire (or fiber) to a box somewhere. You might be able to get Dish Network to set you up with a phone/internet/tv combo package, but then you'd have to make sure to always get an RV site with a good view to the south so that you can find their satellite.
All of that seems like way too much trouble to ME. Sign up for online faxing, then use your mobile carrier's hotspot to connect and do your business.

I never needed a fax machine in the RV, but I've needed POTs (Plain old Telephone service). I just ran a cable into the RV from the jack through a window

Where did that cable go (on the outside of the RV) - what did you hook up to?

This information is great! I should have mentioned that I am a full timer and this is going to be a position for about a year...so yeah. Ma Bell would have had a problem if I were moving around!

I used to have a 2007 33 ft. Excel 5th wheel that had an outlet for a land line - but I guess this one doesn't. I may have to run a line through the window too.

Again, thanks for responding - I needed to get back to this person today to tell them if I would take the position. So, knowing that there are options, I will move forward.

Use an Internet-based fax system, no landline or even phone needed. I've had my own FREE personal fax number through efax.com for something like 10 years. Incoming faxes arrive as email; there's a client you can install on your computer to view/print them. For a small monthly fee you can also use efax.com to SEND faxes.

There may be other/better services out there, but this is the one I've been using.

I used eFax for many years to receive faxes into my e-mail and it worked great. I suppose that you could get a USB air modem (like the AT&T Velocity that I use for accessing the internet). Someone a LOT more technically astute than me could tell you if it's possible to set up a secure local WIFI and use a multi-function copier-fax machine to send and receive faxes. Frankly with e-mail and being able to attach items, it's been MANY years since I've faxed anything.

Another option if you have an internet connection is Magic Jack. It is a VoIP but I have used it to send and receive fax back in the day. I didnt think anyone used fax anymore.

FWIW It sort of depends on why they want a fax. Quality is low so properly cropped and sized jpeg often has a better quality but a fax is a legal document while an attachment is not. I used my scanner a fair amount for similar job related paperwork before I retired.

FWIW It looks like efax would be fine incoming. There are a lot of places that will do outgoing faxes for a fee. Might be the easiest answer if you do not do many and they will not take an attached jpeg.
