We're looking at a 2008 40ft TS Envoy.
Is there reason to stay away from a TS?
I'm referring to their financial problems and coach quality.

Thanks
Brian

Coach quality - absolutely no way. One of the best quality rigs on the market.

Financial Problems - juries out still. I'd wait and see if you have time.

I have my eye on a 40' 5er but I ]m not ready to buy a new rig for a few more years.

I had my eyes on an Envoy but if TS does not hold up and you have to buy as is...even though it is a quality coach...you still have coach specific issues and if a dealer won't get paid to work on it -- you are stuck....sad--one of the best quality coaches on the market.

I forgot to mention in the original post, this is a used 2008. I know there's still "factory" warranty, for what good it could be if they go under.

If they do go under, you can still get parts and service work done.

And if you save enough on the purchase price by shrewd negotiation, you can use the savings to pay for out-of-pocket repair bills should they become necessary. I bought a 2004 TS coach and have had zero problems with it so far.

Also, if it's a used coach, chances are the previous owner got most of the bugs worked out. Just have it checked out before you buy and get negotiate a good price.

Well we bought it, left Tampa yesterday, got up this morning with water all over the floor, the ice maker was leaking I just needed to tighten the fitting.
There are a couple electric plugs that don't work with the inverter, and they have circuit breakers so they should work, but only work on shore power or generator, they run the TV and VCR/CD player.
Just south of Nashville the check engine light came on, it turned out to be the alternator but Spartan couldn't get one to the repair shop until Thursday and I had to be in Louisville on business so they are sending the parts to a dealer in Indiana, at least Spartan is working with me. I had to run the generator to charge the engine batteries but at least it worked.
While it is a used coach it only had 1900 miles on it so I guess we are experiencing the new coach repair syndrome.

Congrats on the new coach! Those glitches are about par for ANY new coach. The original owner likely didn't use it much or have any outstanding issues taken care of, since he obviously lost interest in RVing. But don't fret...you'll come across a few more things but it sounds like you can take care of most of them. Hope you got a great price on it!

In my coach, the inverter does not power all the electric outlets, only certain ones. I imagine your's is the same. In mine, inverter powers two outlets in the bedroom and two in the main living area. The outlets with breakers in my coach are not powered by the inverter.

There is a separate circuit breaker box for the inverter and there is a breaker for the plugs on the slide that has the TV so I would assume it should work

Mine is an '07 model, so they may have changed this over the years. I have two inverters (all electric coach) and all plugs run through one of those inverters. There is a circuit breaker trip on the inverter and it'll pop out when overloaded. Have you checked that? If some plugs on the inverter work and some don't, it may mean not all are set up to run on the inverter for over-current reasons.

I used a circuit tester and went around to all the plugs, checking which ran on a particular breaker, so now I know what's what. I have all my TV's on one breaker, so I'll bet yours is wired that way too.

But the plugs on the slide (non TV) would be on another breaker, I'd think. Let us know what you find out.

Bob, now you have me thinking that I might have a popped breaker. I just assumed not all plugs were powered thru the inverter. I'll check next week when I go to work on my coach. Are the breakers located right on the inverter in outside side hatch?
I only have one 2000 watt inverter.

Well, if you have only one, then it should be working if you have power to even SOME outlets, so that's probably not it. Mine are Magnums....but they used to use Xantec? or some other brand...can't remember exactly. But yes, my reset is right on the side-a little shaft thingy just pops out of the box and you push it in to re-set. But if you have juice to your inverter breaker box, then it's working.(When not plugged in, of course)

My inverter is Xantec so it's probably different. I think only some outlets are powered by the inverter to limit the load. I'll find out tomorrow when I go check it out.
