Unhappy 02 Windsor - Levelling Jack misaligned and stuck extended.

Hi friends.

Tried to level the coach today and heard a strange hissing noise after extending the 3 jacks. I retracted them and went to inspect them. I found this:

Notice the saucer part with the springs is misaligned.

The bong alarm is going off, so I assume that the fluid is low, but I just filled it last week, I would suspect a leak, but I don't see anything on the ground. Maybe the sensor is bad?

Now, I tried manually retracting using the hand twistable valves, and I put a bit of force to try to push it up. I couldn't get much leverage, but it didn't budge.

Any ideas?

The bong is going off because the jack is extended. When the jacks go down, fluid leaves the reservoir and the bong sounds. I wouldn't add fluid. The springs retract the jack, not the pump. Looks like the coach may have moved with the jack down. If it's bent, you're screwed. Take it off. If you could get a floor jack under it and release the manual valve it may go up, but it's the spring that keeps it retracted. Maybe when you added fluid last week, it was because the jack was extended???
Just my observation, I've never had to deal with this myself. I'm sure someone more qualified will speak up.

I'm trying to think how to get under that jack. Maybe dump air and hold the button to retract that jack, then air up real quick and see if it lifts that jack off the ground. Then slip a floor jack under it. Or, dump air and extend the other 2 jacks, and retract the bad one, then retract all and air up.

If you can get 2 inches, slip a 2x4 under it, repeat above with additional 2x4's until it's up.

But then you're gonna have to secure it up. I don't think you can man handle those springs. I'm thinking a come-along or chain and some tie-straps, something like that. However you do it, you can't let that jack come down while you are moving.

Whatever you do, be careful. Don't get squished.

Or you could call a service company and give them your credit card. Depends on your abilities.

Thanks so much for the advice. I might just give my credit card to someone to fix it. It seems beyond my abilities.

The retraction springs and foot are off to the side, out of alignment. You can see them in the picture...

I was able to get the jack retracted using some cement blocks and a wooden pole to pry it back up. Wasn't able to get the spring reattached, but it is under the jack so it won't fall down. Will be taking it in to be fixed along with some other small items.

Thanks for everyone's help, I consider it a success!

Question

Any opinions on the slides?

Should I keep them in until I get the jack fixed?

RVA Co is located in Escondido Ca. 320 Market Pl. 92029 760-746-5732, [If your coach has these levelers.] A new jack is about $700. RVA may be able to repair your existing jack, anyway I think it is worth a phone call to ask them about the possibility of repair. About operating your slides, in my opinion as long as you are aired up, I don't see a problem extending or retracting the slides.

I spoke with RVA today. They are still there, but there website is messed up. They said to unhook the springs, put the pad in place then reattach the springs. But those springs are pretty strong so be careful.

Also. The slides are designed to operate when you are fully aired up with the coach in travel ready configuration. So should be no problem. When you park, it's slides out, dump air, then level. When departing it's air up, retract jacks, then bring slides in.

Yay! You're the man Bob. Glad to hear the slides can be out without the leveling jacks.

I haven't had time to weigh my coach yet to figure out the correct pressure per tire. On the sides it says 125 though. My wife will be happy to hear that we can put the slides out before we get the jack fixed!
