Just got back our 06 Diplomat from Harrisburg, Oregon. It was at Monaco's factory service center to replace all of the roof seam caulking. The reason for the repair is that when the coach was build, the wrong caulking was used. Owners of 06 Diplomats need to be aware of the problem before their warrenty runs out. It to them 27 hours to take all of the old caulking off, clean and prep the surface before the new caulking was applied. The service writer stated this has been a problem with alot of the 06 Diplomats and they have done these of repairs.

Hi iceit -

Welcome to irv2

We're really glad to have you here as a new member and are looking forward to reading your posts about your RVing experiences and adventures. You'll find a great bunch of folks on this site who are very knowledgeable of RVing, the rigs we use, and the places we go in them. Enjoy the forums and post often, and when you want to be a official member of the forum (and not just a new member of irv2) let me know.

Bummer on the caulking problem, but glad they caught it in time. Good to know.

Do you know the mfgr-date of your Dip? Late '06s have a one-piece roof that goes all the way over from side to side, but yours sounds like an early one (like mine) that still has the curved pieces that go from roof-to-walls.

Thanks!
Ron

Our roof was one of the earlier roofs and has the curved piece that goes from the roof to the sidewall. Monaco Service Center had to replace the curved piece on both side of the coach, because it developed wrinkles and started to crack. This was the original problem with the coach and Monaco had a driver pickup our coach and returned it to Harrisburg to fix this problem. They had to take of the awnings off, grind off the old piece, prep the surface, replace the curve piece, seal and caulk the seam and reattach everything and have it painted. This is another problem that developed with the 06 Diplomatsand this took 28 hours to correct.

Hi iceit - welcome to the forums

Can you explain a bit more about how you found this problem >> what symptoms you found and such. Did you have leaks? Cracked caulking?

Thanks -

For sure. Just the thought getting a bill this size for shoddy workmanship in manufacturing is a worrisome.

Look at your curved part of the roof, where the roof meets the side wall. If that curve part is starting to wrinkle, then your will start to have a problem with cracks and leaks. You need to have this problem taken care of right away. If you wait and warrenty runs out, you'll be paying big bucks $$$ to have this repaired. And as far as the caulking goes, just pull on the caulking and it will come right off. <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Originally posted by digNbubbs:

Ours had the exact same problem - you could see buckling/wrinckling at the spots Iceit mentioned...Monaco sent a tech down to Texas to fix it. They did a great job responding to the problem, and repaired it in a timely basis.

Thanks for the info. I will check it out tomorrow. I suspect I may have this going on - I remember seeing a bit of wrinkling on those side pieces. I do have a Knight and not a Diplomat, but it may be similar construction.
