What do you call "blowing"? Do they actually blow up? Does the capacitance value change? What brand name are they & where are you getting them from? Does it say "Made in China" on them?

I'm embarrassed to say I had to look up what the run capacitor actually did. Here is what I found:
Quote:
"A run capacitor is used to continuously adjust current or phase shift to a motor's windings in an effort to optimise the motor's torque and efficiency performance. Because it is designed for continuous duty, it has a much lower failure rate than a start capacitor."
https://temcoindustrial.com/product-...run-capacitors

So my question, like hypoxia's, are what happens when you detect they are "blowing"? How is the Run Capacitor? I guess it really boils down to either the capacitor is bad from the get-go, or the motor is going out. I guess it could also point to maybe a bad connection somewhere causing the run voltage/amperage to be low thus causing the run capacitor to go bad?

How many roof air conditioners does your RV have?

Is this happening in the same location?

Possible low voltage condition?

Send a message via ICQ to Ivylog
I would check the voltage on the relay on the control board on the roof before and while running.

3 roof units , back 2 run great. 3 run capacitors bought from 3 different suppliers best can remember. It cool great then all of a sudden you hear a pop and compressor no longer pumps cool air.

Motors don't like low voltage. Probably hard on the capacitors.

you need a clamp-on AMP meter to measure the compressor running amps and compare the running amps on the compressor tag. Be sure your not confusing the start cap with the run cap.

I thought the start cap was smaller and black and the run capacitor is silver with 3 leads on top? If it is low voltage how do you correct it?

3 Leads? Are they marked Herm, F and C ? Herm is compressor, F is fan and C is common. Does the black one have a resistor or not? Is there a PTCR?

What is the A/C model number?
What are the part numbers and values of the capacitors?
Do you have the service manual? http://bryantrv.com/docs2/docs/acservice.pdf

With the latest capacitor it is cooling ok but there is a faint smell if you place your nose at the vent so Iím afraid to run it

Pull the top A/C cover off with the unit off and spin the motor with your fingers by the shaft. It should spin freely for a few seconds. If it doesn't, just replace the motor.
