Brian

You either didn't read my answer to the same question you posted on another forum, or chose to ignore it. I spelled it out in black and white there.

Drifter.....Here is Texan's post RV.Net Open Roads Forum: Class A Motorhomes: Charging batteries on my DP
When I first found out my engine batteries were not being charged by shore power, I bought the TrikLStart and installed it in the battery bay. It worked fine for years, but I really liked the idea of the more integrated unit offered by MegaTech. My TrikLStart was still working, but recently would not go to green when both sets of batteries were charged. It also developed a bulge on the front panel.

I followed Texan's part list and bought and replaced both the charger (BIRD) and the relay. I later found out that the BIRD may have caused the older relays to burn up more quickly. Several people I spoke with said they had a relay failure shortly after adding the BIRD.

Here is my post that supercub is following up. This is a OEM direct replacement, not an aftermarket add on. Believe me, the relay used by Monaco is going to burn out whether you use the MT960DC or some after market system.

Monaco built some very weird electrical systems, I know, I have one. On ours, the engine did NOT charge the house batteries and the shore power did NOT charge the engine batteries. I had to replace their 1 way charge controller with a 2 way system from Megatech of Oregon to cure both problems. Also, Monaco used the cheapest parts they could buy and the battery boost relay was one of those, with cheap copper clad points in a high amp relay. It will burn out very easy and leave you without any boost feature. You can buy the silver alloy points model for your coach at Murcal, which is designed for high amp constant service. Most parts used in the coach are much better quality, but for some reason, they cheaped out in the electrical department.

Wow.........hope I can learn something here. I had a bad cell or two in my engine battery, motor would not turn over, levelers would not work nor would the steps retract. I tried to use the emergency start switch, nothing there. I called Damon, he asked if the switch was a on/off or one that you had to hold on. Mine is on/off. He said that the switch was to be on to charge the house batteries when driving. So to start the motor I have to use jumper cables from the house batteries. I have never heard of one like this setup, could it be. Genset starts off the house batteries also. Makes you scared to boondock.
