Hi guys I'm looking at a 2008 36 pdq Camelot that I might put a offer on .does this 400 isl motor have the particulate burner on the engine?my 08 Neptune with the 340 horse motor does and it dogs going up hills. I for some reason thought the smogged engine was the 425 horse power cummins

Thanks

I believe all diesel engines produced in or after 2007 have the particulate burner

Then his engine was very likely produced in 2006. Just as motorhome builders are using up every last 2009 engine to delay the expensive additional requirements for 2010 engines

Your friend's coach is probably on a 06 chassis which would not have the DPF. The DPF should not impact the get up and go, it doesn't on my 2008 Winnebago Tour with ISL 400 it hauls. You just don't have the torque with an ISB.

We have a 2009 Monaco with an 07 model year ISM Cummins, No particulate filter, the easy way to tell if the coach has one is to look inside the tail pipe at the color, black no filter, white it has one!

When I ordered my 2008 Camelot I told the factory rep I wanted a 2006 ISL 400 Cummins and he said they had lots of 06 engines set aside so there was no problem getting one installed. So there are probably lots of 2008 or even 2009 coaches out there with 06 non clean burn engines. So it's up to you to determine what engine model is driving the coach.

Ask the dealer or person for the engine serial number and call Cummins. To my knowledge the ISL 425 has the particulate burner. I ordered my 2007 Diplomat 2 years earlier than I planed because it had the 2006 ISL400. The dealer told me that the 2007 ISL motors will have the new particulate burner system which I did not want. Monaco purchased as many 2006 400's as they could get and by reading some of the posts had enough for even some 09 models. Search this forum on the ISL425 and see what owners have to say.

Our experience with 2009 Camelot 425ISL with DPF, compared to 2007 Endeavor with non-DPF 400ISL, is that DPF does not degrade performance. Our unit has traveled across the US and up and down the Rocky Mountains, towing, with no problems. Also ULSD is pretty much universally sold now so non DPF units burn the same fuel as DPF units now. Just reporting our experience - data point of one.

I have the ISL with the DPF in my 2009..plenty of power...but those who have the ISL with a 2006 motor...make sure you check with Cummins as those were the ones with bad wrist pins causing catastrophic engine failure. Cummins fixes it when it happens...but their workaround was to put a light on the dash if pressure is lost meaning you have 8 minutes until engine self destructs. Cummins has the serial numbers of the engines involved.
