That service would be real helpful for thieves. Hopefully the guy you send your money to isn't the thief and doesn't steal your $20.

Maybe he will send you a list of "all" possible four digit code combinations for you to try for $20.

This could be legit and possibly there are some master codes. If that's the case I would not be surprised Kenwood would not give you the master cose over the phone (since they don't know if you are the owner or the thief).

Post back and let us know how this works.

I called Kenwood again to see if they could help, but no luck. It boils down I have to send the unit in to one of their two Service Centers; one in CA and the other one in NY with a cost of $40. While it is not big $s, it is the inconvenience of taking it out and sending it in.

Another alternative would be to see if I could replace the monitor. Has anyone done this?

Isn't replacing the monitor the same amount of work as removing the receiver and sending it to Kenwood?

I've thought about replacing our Kenwood monitor for the Aladdin system by the bed as well as the Sony CRT Aladdin monitor in the center dash. It would be nice to find something with a higher resolution.
Neither of our monitors has a password that I'm aware off, but the Aladdin has a password for system setup.

You are right, it is probably not easier nor cheaper to replace it. A new one might have a sharper image, but may not have the "flip" feature either. The lack of of this feature may make it more susceptible to being bumped and break.

Send a message via ICQ to Ivylog
I have the same Kenwood monitor and have disconnected coach power and engine power twice recently and have not been locked out. You have nothing to loose trying the Aladdin codes.

On my coach, I can also pull up the Aladdin screen on the TVs too. So if OPs coach is similar he would be able to go to bedroom and bring up the Aladdin system on that TV. If I understand the problem correctly, it's only the "in-dash monitor" that OP can't get to work.

I have a Kenwood monitor too - and there is a security setup screen in the Kenwood where one has to choose to use a password. This is for theft prevention.

Apparently the PO setup the password and OP didn't know about this until he disconnected batteries. I think if he knew ahead of time he could have changed the password (maybe - sometimes you need to know the current password to change it) or removed the password requirement.

You would spend less money to replace the crappy old Kenwood system than to pay to get into it.

I spent $39 to buy a cheap monitor and ditched the whole Kenwood mess.
The only thing you need to keep is the monitor converter unit.

This sounds plausible! But, I have these two remotes I can put my hands on in my coach. Neither one seems go along with entering the code "5227" as described. Any thoughts?

OP can install a new in-dash monitor for the Aladdin system (and backup camera) but the Kenwood display (head unit) also controls the CD Changer and Navigation/Sirius (if he has those options).

I would spend the $40 to have the security code cleared by Kenwood. Even if he wants to replace/upgrade the unit, it would be more valuable for resale if the unit is not locked.

@OP. If you want to ditch the Kenwood and not spend any money on it, PM me and I'll take it (and cover the for shipping).
