10000 watt Onan Quiet Diesel Wiring Schematics Needed
Starting issue:
Generator goes through the start process but never engages the starter. I run a wire to the exciter wire on the starter solenoid. I can then push the start switch from anywhere on the coach then excite the jumper wire with my Power Probe and start the generator every time.
I have taken all connections apart, cleaned and then added dielectric grease to each connector.
Generator was intermittent but now nothing. Still lights every time with the Power Probe.

I'd suggest taking the starter off the generator and either bench test it yourself or take it to an auto parts store where they can do it for you. I think it might be a bad Bendix solenoid, some of your details about 'exciter' wire, 'power probe' and then saying it will start "from anywhere on the coach", seems contrary to "Generator was intermittent but now nothing. Onan should be able to provide a wiring diagram for the basic install, but the additional start locations etc. would have to be provided by Monaco.

Last summer my generator wouldn't start. Solenoid would click but wouldn't turn over.
Ran jumper cables from my car and the starter worked, so I went looking for the bad
connection. Found one of the cables connecting to the generator was loose.

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION HERE:
The starter works - PERFECTLY
There is plenty of power at the starter. Grounds and everything else are fine.
Myself or someone else from any location in the coach can push and hold the start button, I then put 12 volts to the starter solenoid that should be supplies from one of the 3 start relays (ice cube type) and it starts fine.
You have to push the start button to light the glow plugs and open the fuel shut off solenoid. Once it fires it runs until you shut it off.
If someone could please point me to schematics I'll figure it out and post how to repair for anyone that may have the same issue.
I'm a diesel engine mechanic by trade so PLEASE don't suggest the obvious. Just need some real technical info.

...if you are a diesel mechanic by trade--why are you wasting your time asking all us amateurs what to do? We should be asking you questions--[smile]

Sorry, first post should have said looking for schematics.
Not trying to be a jerk or anything, I was past looking at all the obvious reasons within an hour or so into the project. I grabbed some replacement relays and will see if I can get somewhere tonight. Trouble is, those 3 relays are buried and you have to pull all the covers to get to them.

It does sound like a bad relay. Good Luck

I have the manual for Onan models HDCAA, HDCAB, HDCAC, HDCAD (all in same manual). If you need this, PM me with your e-mail. The file is too large to attach here.

The one I have (if that's the one OP needs) is on the site linked to above. It's #981-0526D.
Good luck.

Another member emailed me the service manual with schematics. Same that CountryB posted - thanks to both.
I am fairly certain (hopeful) that it is either the K-2 relay or possibly a ground to the relay. We just got the RV parked back in it's place last night and it will most likely be this weekend before I have time to dive into it. I'll update my findings.
Thanks again.
