1999 Monaco Signature Classic 45' Single

Hey gang!

I am looking at a 1999 Monaco Signature Classic 45' with a single slide. It has a Cummins N14 and the original CeeMat transmission has been swapped for an Allison 4000 series. The coach is well maintained. Anything in particular to look for?

I have a '98 with the N14 and CeMat trans and this thing is really a good coach. No issues with power train nor generator as long as preventative maintenance has been completed. The only major issue I have had is the AquaHot had to be replaced due to an internal leak. Beyond that, the coach has been maintenance free.

I would suggest that you get an independent certified RV mechanic to inspect all the RV systems, including the roof. In addition I would have the engine, transmission, frame, etc. inspected by a diesel service shop. Having a coolant and oil analysis by a lab (like JG Lubricants ) would reveal any hidden problems.

Make sure everything is in writing!! Any purchase should be contingent upon successfully passing these inspections/tests.

I would do this to any used MH I was looking to buy.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of information about this rig. I have scoured the internet as well as numerous forums and this rig (make/model) seems to be pretty illusive. I'm not sure if this is the case due to its original cost in 1999 of over $500K or what. I have only seen/found 1-2 nationwide.

Any idea why there is such limited info? Am I expecting to find more info than is traditionally available?

Thanks for the input. What does your floor plan look like? How many people have you slept in it?

Monaco only made a handful with this engine (less than 10), so finding out any information on this is quite elusive. The coach will sleep 4 but anymore someone will have to sleep on the floor. Mine is not representative of what's out there since it was custom built and I have never seen anything like it. The original sticker price on it was $514K in 1998. We have redone the inside completely with new appliances, tv's, all furniture reupholstered, new 4 X 4 shower with free standing glass and new tile/carpet.

Whoever changed the transmission spent a ton of money doing so as this is a pretty serious change to do. I looked at doing this one time but the price for doing this was quoted at around $20K.

The one I'm looking at has the j-lounger and couch opposite one another. The couch and kitchen are on the same side (slide).

The transmission swap did indeed cost $20k according to the owner.

If less than 10 were made, I suppose that would explain the limited info.

Would/should this be a deterrent?

I'm not sure I specifically care about finding info specific to the engine and transmission. The N14 is one hell of a motor as is the 4060 Allison. Mostly wanted some more info on the coaches other systems and build quality.

I'm be curious type. Love to educate myself and have both eyes fully open.

Rig has approximate 60k miles on it and the 12.5kW gen has 500 hrs. Not used much. I realize that that can be problematic in and of itself. Im very familiar with diesels and can turn a wrench pretty damn well.

Seems like a nice coach with low miles. The N14 is bulletproof and can be repaired almost anywhere, so I would not worry about that. Same goes for the Allison transmission.

I do not have a j lounge but a sofa which has a foldout bed that sleeps two. Kitchen is in slide with fridge located on passenger side in hall.

If you like the coach, sourcing parts for it is not a problem and this would not be a deterrent from buying the coach. This era of coaches are really made well and the good part is they have very little electronics to fail. The wiring is just like a house and it is all Square D, which can be found anywhere.

If you have any other questions, just ask.

Another thing is the AquaHot which need to be serviced once a year by qualified personnel. If you neglect this unit and it fails, parts for it are absurd in price.

I plan on servicing it annually on my own. User: zmotorsports made a YouTube video that is great. Right up my alley

Does the coach come with a wiring diagram as this is an invaluable tool to have?

I'll have to check. It has ALL the original manuals, so I assume so.
