1999 Safari Continental 4006 brake lights failed

i have a 1999 contental 4006. My brakes lights failed. I went to the suggested chassis service center and they told me the brake light switch needed to be replaced. They did not have one on hand so i picked it up from them the following week. I have had it replaced by a local serviceman and the brake light still do not function. Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed? I love this unit and am a new owner so i am in the learning curve. thanks

1.) Do the brake lights work if you jump the brake switch wires?
You may have a "blown fuse" or a "malfunctioning 12V automatic reset circuit breaker".

2.) Was the replacement switch an "exact replacement"?
My Safari this one: Cole Hersee 90043-07 - Momentary Switch | O'Reilly Auto Parts

3.) Did you test the new switch to make sure it was good before you paid someone install it?

4.) Did the local serviceman install AND adjust the switch correctly?
There's about an inch of adjustment on the shaft of my brake light switch.

Good luck,

Thanks for your reply mel.
I will have the tech check tomorrow. He installed the new switch when i was not present.
I hope that it is just an adjustment... how far does your switch depress before it lights up the brake lights?
This new switch is not an exact replacement it was supplied by colton truck service center in colton ca. they are the factory auth service centre for the spartan chassis so i would hope this switch should be an ok sub.

Will ppost the result of tomorrow service visit as i know
thks

ps. Does the curcuit breaker automatically reset?
The spartan chassis people told me they rarely see a defective breaker needing replacment? your thoughts?

Are you sure you have a Spartan chassis? I thought Safari went from the Magnum chassis to the Roadmaster chassis when Monaco purchased them -- I`ve owned 2 Safari`s & both were on a Magnum chassis -- Bill Willard

This is the switch Magnum Chassis (Safari) used. I replaced one on my 99 Continental. Waterproof, which is important with the way it is located. Google the part number and you may find it cheaper. It has to be adjusted for length to work properly when installed.

Hope you didn't pay some one to not fix the issue. Good Luck

I believe you are correct.

Methinks all Safari coaches, (with the exception of "Safari Treks"), from June of 1993 until to 2001, when Monaco acquired SMC where built on either the the Magnum Blue Streak or the Magnum Blue Max chassis built by the Magnum Manufacturing division of SMC, (Safari Motor Coaches) ...while any 2002 and newer "Monaco built Safaris" are on a different brand of chassis... (maybe Roadmaster?).
