2000 Dynasty Turn Signals Inoperative

On the way back from Caprock Canyon State Park our turn signals and hazard flashers stopped working on our 2000 Dynasty.

The turn signal and hazard lights don't work front or back of the coach.

The indicator lights on the dash don't work for either turn signals or hazard flashers--however the dash lights will turn on if the hazard flashers are on, and I press on the brake. They don't flash, they are just on.

I can hear the flasher "blinking", the lights just don't come on.

The fuse in the compartment beneath the drivers window is good. There is only one marked "Hazard Lights"

I found this thread:

http://www.irv2.com/forums/f115/no-t...rs-127418.html

My steering column connector also has a broken keeper, but it was tight and doesn't appear to be an issue.

Since I can hear the flasher unit I'm thinking the flasher might actually be timing the circuit, but the switch portion may be defective.

Any other ideas?

Check that the flasher is actually plugged in. Just went through that with my 2008 Dynasty. The flasher is located in the 12v compartment. Apparently this is common.

The flasher relay was firmly seated--I removed and re-seated it and it didn't change anything. I pulled it out and it has a loose piece inside so I've ordered a new one.

I found a schematic of the turn signal circuit. Looking at it, I think the only common elements are the flasher, hazard flasher switch and turn signal switch.

Twelve volt DC is provided by the 15 amp fuse marked "Hazard" in short duration pulses by the flasher to the hazard flasher switch and jumped to the turn signal switch as a common signal. There is nothing on this line until either the Hazard switch or one of the turn signal switches is turned on to complete the circuit.

The turn signals utilize the common 12 volt wiring from the flasher (through the hazard switch) to complete the circuit from the ground in the appropriate lights to the 12 VDC pulses coming out of the flasher. The right (green) and left (yellow) turn signal wiring go directly from their respective bulbs to the turn signal switch.

The hazard switch connects the left (yellow) and right (green) lines to the 12 VDC flasher when turned on.

1. I'm not sure how the hazard flasher could cause my problems since I can hear it "flashing" That means it's getting 12 volts and ground so it can time the circuit. It definitely rattles so there's something loose inside so I'll hold off doing any more trouble shooting until it's replaced.

2. I don't see how the turn signal switch could cause both the hazard and turn signals to fail. All three signals, the common 12 volts and lines to left or right lights are simply jumped to the hazard switch. If any of them were to fail, the hazard switch should still work.

3. The most likely culprit is the hazard switch--a failed 12 VDC common connection at the switch would cause both hazard and turn signal lights to fail.

I received the flasher this afternoon and it fixed the problem. I'm going to order another and carry it as a spare.
