What is the "Battery Cut off" switch at the front door used for?

After opening her up for the spring I have discovered that the house batteries will not take a charge any more than 8.65 volts, even when left on the charger over night.

The batteries are warm and smell.......these are 4 - 6 volt.

And to top it off, 2 of the slides are out, which is how I discovered the issue with the batteries.

Welcome to spring, I can hardly wait until the boat is launched...................

Was the coach plugged in while in storage?

The switch is sometimes called a "Salesman" switch and it turns off the battery to most of the house components.

There is still enough of a parasitic draw on the batteries to cause them to drain over a period of time unless you are able to completely isolate the batteries. My coach has a rotary type cut off switch besides the Salesman switch.

Best place to kill batteries is at battery box if your coach is like mine, you should have 2 kill switches, one for house and one for engine batteries. There will still be a small draw on batteries with salesman switch off. Did you check battery water levels, if you see the plates showing they are probably toast.

I took the batteries to be tested and they are done like dinner.

Don't think I did anything to kill them, I kept them charged all winter and made sure the levels were up, but the guy who checked them said maybe the charger had something to do with killing them.

Oh well, what can ya do it's the cost of ownership.

I don't know but not too recent.

I bought 4 new 6 volt deep cells.

Now I just need to put them in............man are they heavy.

The switch does not "toggle" in either direction, it just moves like a rocker, but does not stay.
So to make it work someone would need to stand there with their finger on the switch.

??????????????

I put in 4 new 6 volt deep cycle batteries and connected them as I thought was correct. Take the + and hook it up to the - of another battery to create one 12 volt battery, then do the same with the other two batteries.

Next I hooked up the + to + on two batteries and then did the same but with the - post.

I am getting 12 volts between 2 batteries, but there is nothing, zero zilch between the other 2 batteries.

I wish I could draw on this to show, but maybe someone out there has experienced the same situation.

I'm very frustrated and so is my neighbour.......we can't figure out what is wrong.

Have you checked your manuals, I think battery wiring is shown.
