Hi,

Considering buying a 2003 Beaver Monterey 40' DP and was wondering if anyone had info on the chassis and air bags. I don't know much about this stuff, but the dealer mentioned they have better air bags because they're spread further apart...giving a smoother ride.

Any thoughts?

Or any thoughts about this motor home in general?

Thanks
Barbara

Hey Barbara,

Here is the brochure for that coach:

http://www.beavermotorcoaches.com/pr...y/monterey.pdf

That coach was built after Monaco Coach took over Beaver. The roadmaster chassis used was a variant of Monaco's RR8R chassis, I think I was called the M8R chassis. It has 8 airbags and shocks spread to a far outboard position. The airbags are smaller than those on a typical 4 bag Freightliner or Spartan chassis. This has the effect of giving a controlled ride wilh less lean and side sway but a firmer ride.

That coach had a very good selection of standard features like the Onan diesel generator and the 2000 watt inverter. The Cummins ISC and Allison transmission are an excellent combo which should provide good power and reasonable fuel economy.

Good luck and safe travels.

The Beaver 2003 is almost identical to my '04 Diplomat. I've been VERY pleased with my rig's operation over the 55,000 miles now on it. My rear radiator sprung a leak in late 2010 and the replacement radiator cost $1500....and I did all the work. But the engine and transmission have been rock-solid.

Will you be jumping into RVing?...or have you been at this game by owning smaller & less complicated rigs before? Being handy can be a real attribute at keeping your bank account from being hit for various repairs that come with the territory.
