2004 Monaco Executive entry step inop

I have a 2004 Monaco executive entry step that used to be intermittent. Now it doesn’t work at all. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Yes the switch is on. Thanks

Clean the contacts on the door switch.

If the contacts hangup so they do not make contact when the door is open, you can try silicone spray or buy new ones by searching Ebay for Sliding Door Contact Switch...$3-6.

Cleaning the door switch is a good idea. There's also a connector underneath that should be cleaned with contact spray occasionally.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I think the switch you're referring to is the one that prevents the steps from retracting when you close the door without the engine running.

I had a problem with my steps not fully retracting or extending. This was after a time of very little usage. I just sprayed all the moving parts underneath with silicone spray, helping the steps move in and out until they worked free again. This may not help you but it's something you may need to do.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I assume you have a Kwikee step assembly?

Below is a link to the Kwikee owner's manual. Page 5 shows where to lube the steps. Page 7 has service notes and a trouble shooting guide.
Most of the time if you clean the door switch and the electrical connector underneath the steps will start working again. It is also important to properly lube the steps at the pivot points.

If you hear the step motor running and they do not move, then you may need a new motor/gear assembly. These are the same motors as an early Ford power window. They are much cheaper than purchasing from Kwikee.

I'm a little late to this party, sorry. Don't get on here as much as I should...

Mine was intermittent, then got worse. I lubed and cleaned, suspecting that the gears had bits of gravel in them or something equivalent. Finally discovered the top plate of the drive motor gear box had cracked. It's under built, not super strong but rather just strong enough. Seems like others on this forum were complaining that the motor seems to last 7 years, then it cracks. Hopefully yours is something simple, but if nothing else works check the drive motor. It's a fairly simple replacement, although it does include laying under the coach to do it. Yuk.
