2008 Safari Simba 37PDQ Issues

I have just committed the ultimate RV mistake. I bought a 2008 Safari Simba 37PDQ without doing my homework. Seller had cancer and seemed like such a nice guy, blah, blah, blah. Love the way it rolls down the road but I have some random electrical problems I hope someone else out there may have experienced. Here is the list- power sunshades don't work from either passenger or driver position, awning doesn't work from inside or outside, surround sound system kind of works but switch that allows sound from dash radio to play through speakers doesn't do anything (so no radio). Sometimes the rear camera goes on and off, sometimes the rear curb slide won't retract, rear furnace doesn't work. Other than that, I love it! Hoping someone out there may have run into some of these problems but I may have to start tearing stuff apart and that never ends well... too much plastic. If you can help...

First of all, Glad you're here, and you've come to the right place.

Second, STOP! Take a breath, and try to relax. Not to make light of your issues, but all of these things can be taken care-of. It's not like the engine fell off and landed on your toe.

There are a multitude of folks on here who've been down that road (literally and figuratively), and I sure they'll stop by and lend a big hand with whatever you're working on.

Again, glad you're here!

TBH it all sounds like a grounding issue. Start at the fuse panel ground. You may have to loosen and then tighten connections while looking for corroded connections. Also check your battery connections and clean them/tighten them while you are there.

If you have power to the fuse panel but not out, note the fuses there and ref the manual for the correct fuses and replace them all....cheap piece of mind. If this all checks out trace the next point on each specific device and any inline fuses (the onboard fuse for the furnace comes to mind)...making sense?

power sunshades don't work from either passenger or driver position, awning doesn't work from inside or outside.

These things may be ignition switch related. Some lockout these function when the engine is running. Could be a bad relay somewhere.

First, thanks very much for answering my SOS. Forgot to mention I checked the fuses in the compartment under the driver's side (seems to be where everything 12 volt feeds from) but I also have a fuse box next to the power panel in the rear closet and they are all good, too. I think the box in the closet only feeds when the inverter is in service where the panel under the driver's seat feeds during normal operation. I could be wrong on that since I seem to be wrong on everything else. Did I mention the black tank leaks out the top while driving down the road? Not pleasant when you get to your destination! I must have made some bad mistakes in my past...

Does it do all these things when running? Will the slide retract when running or does it have a lockout? Have you checked the health of the batteries since almost everything you describe is 12v related. Also is your inverter fumctioning properly?

I believe the bedroom fuses are mostly things fed from the house batteries
and the front driver side fuses will be mostly those things powered by the chassis
( engine ) batteries.
You probably have another electrical bay at the right rear, my Windsor does.

That's the confusing part. The slide should only work with the engine off. The awning should work with the engine off. The shades are for driving and therefore should work with the engine running, not sure if they would run with the engine off. The dash radio is probably unrelated to the other problems but only plays in the bedroom. It would normally play through the surround speakers while driving if the switching unit were working. Everything else on the 12 volt system works fine- I'm not sure if the inverter is working or not but also not sure if that is relevant. Do you think an inverter problem could cause this? Seems like a stretch.

Ray, I think you have that right. When I couldn't get the bedroom slide to operate I found the box in the battery compartment at the right rear. That box has all the slide relays as well as the battery/inverter connections. It looks like there are a limited number of 12 volt circuits that run with the inverter (box in closet) and all the 12 volt load operates when on shore power or generator (box in front left bin under driver). I think I need to get a full electrical schematic on a Monaco 38PDQ since it is similar to my Safari 37PDQ. REV people who are now servicing Monaco didn't have a schematic for my Safari. Kind of scary, huh?
