2011 still on the lot. Whats it worth?
I just saw a NEW 2011 Holiday Rambler 40 PBT Ambassador on a dealers lot. The base price is $250,643 and has $13,542 in options bringing it to $264,095. Nothing wrong with the unit but it has bunk beds with three slides and has never sold. I have been watching it for a while and they have now reduced it to $159,999. I know it can't still be financed so they are into it for cash. What do you think it is worth? Any concern because it is a Holiday Rambler? What about the warranty?

In my opinion, that isn't a bad price. Probably a good deal and you could probabny get it for around $150K

Nothing wrong with it, BUT it has bunk beds. That tells me that you don't want bunk beds. If that is the case, I am sure that there are other HR'S out there that are more to your liking. With regard to the price, a 30 % reduction from list is a good starting point, they are asking 60 % or so (40% reduction) for the unit and that a good price, maybe you could do better, but if the bunks are not to your liking, move on. You will likely keep the unit for many years and the bunks will become a thorn in your side well after you forget the bargain price.

I think there is a thread here somewhere about what folks have done with the bunk area, other than the bunks - sewing center, hobby area, ham radio station, computer desk, home office, etc. DW and I are attracted to bunk house coaches for our hobbies - but would need two such areas. :-)

I was always under the impression that the warranty didn't start until the unit was sold.
On the 10 or so new vehicles and three new RV's that I've bought that's how it worked.
If you are saving $100,000 then a couple thousand to redo the bunk beds isn't such a bad deal.

Not sure I can agree with this statement, could be just the right person hasn't seen it yet.
We bought a left over 2010 Jeep Liberty that sat on the dealers lot for over a year. It was black and very nicely optioned although not fully loaded. They sold all kinds of Liberty's that year but no one wanted that one.
Was great for us cause we got a heck of a great deal on it.
My advice if you like the coach and think it'll work for you I wouldn;t hesitate.

We bought a left over 2007 model in 2008. A few points:
- make sure they give you brand new batteries as the ones in there have been sitting likely uncharged for a few years
- you may want to have the dealer make the modifications to the bunk area for you. That way the changes can be financed as part of the purchase (we had the dealer put an oven in as DW is a big baker).
- not sure what you mean by your statement about financing. Maybe you mean the dealer now owns the coach. You should be able to finance the coach as a new vehicle.
- check the roof thoroughly for leaks and dried out sealant.
- have them replace the serpentine belt as ours snapped after about 10k miles as it may have dried out
- we bought ours for about $90k off list so $100k is right in the ballpark
- you may want to consider the extended warranty. We have one and have definitely gotten our money's worth out of it.

It has a Int’l Maxxforce 10 350HP Diesel engine with a Allison 3000-MH 6 Speed World Transmission.
I am not sure of its build date. How do I determine that? I have not yet questioned the warranty but will this week. Not having a full warranty would be a deal breaker. But wouldn’t it still carry new Monaco and engine etc warranty since it has never been sold? We Will trade in our present unit and pay balance in cash so financing would not be a problem.
As for storms it has been on the same dealer lot and we have not had any storms. It appears to be in showroom condition.
I know for a fact that it is past the date the dealer’s bank will continue to floor plan it. He has had to pay off the loan out of his own pocket and he would now like to put that money back to work elsewhere. It is presently just sitting there not earning him anything.
We have just retired and plan on spending long periods of time traveling. We don’t ever intend on being full timers. We will probably be limited to 6 months per year. We presently have a 2007 Monaco Cayman XL 37PBD with a Cummins 325 Hp. It is in great condition with 34K miles and we plan a trip in early April from Florida to Southern California and up the West Coast and return. We are not actively hunting a new coach but the wife saw this one and remarked it would be nice for the cat and it has lots more storage and weight carrying capabilities. I like the idea of space for computer and printer etc. It does have a king size bed and being 6’4” it would be nice. In addition we would be able to carry more – as in stuff – with us.
I have a number of concerns: 1 I have read about problems with the Maxforce engine. How reliable is it? 2. If we purchased it the next few weeks would we have enough time to road test it etc to go on the road in early April? 3. What is the resale of a unit with bunkbeds. 4. When we decide to sell it how do we explain sitting on the lot for two years? 5 Is the Ambassador a step up from the Cayman XL or is it more of a lateral move?
