I drive 6% grades all the time here in AZ. I also have had my batteries out several times. I had Pacific Truck (might be Freightliner Northwest now) in Coburg, OR reprogram my Allison for a different shift sequence when using the Mode button.
All of the above didn’t change the individual shifts, either up or down.
Sure would be nice to know what caused Mikes transmission to misbehave.

Mike I finished reading the Allison service manual late last night. I didn’t see anything that stands out or points to one thing.

On a whim I called my brother, who had followed me around the country. We split up in Yellowstone. He headed through the park and out the Tetons, I headed south west toward Idaho.

He reported that his trans was shifting very harsh and sometimes erratically as well. He was making plans to have it serviced but it cleared up by the time he got to Blythe CA.
