As I was backing into a campsite last summer, the DW got a little distracted at the rear of the coach and I swiped a flagpole with the passengers side front bumper.(No..I'm not blaming her...I know I was the driver). Although the flagpole paid with it's life, the bumper only sustained a scrape in the 3M mask. Has anyone ever repaired or attempted to repair the mask? I'm talking about and area maybe 2 inches by 3 inches...and if you did, how did you do it? How did it turn out? and where did you get the materials for the repair??
I see threads regarding replacing the entire mask, but not about small repairs.
Any help is appreciated.....

Ron, we had something like that happen to our coach in the center front above the license plate area where somebody (DW) got close with the jeep and left a large tire scuff on the diamond shield. I used 3000 grit sand paper and wet sanded lightly until most if not all was removed. Now if you knew where it was it only looks a little dull.

Unfortunately, mine is an "open wound"...meaning a piece of the plastic was removed by the scrape...OUCH!! There is a small scuff alongside it, so it sounds like your suggestion will work there but I need advice about whether this is fixable or not....

You can get the 3M material from these folks @ Star Shield Armor | The Leader in Paint Protection Film I purchased a small amount to place a strip below the entry door. Not sure about how you would go about the repair but it's pretty easy to put the 3M material down once you have a clean surface.

Well here is the REAL bad news. If you plan on keeping your coach for 4-5 years, the 3M and or diamond shield will start to yellow. It may also develop mildew spots under it that cannot be removed. Then when you take it off it will pull the paint with it, and you will have to have the entire front repainted. That will cost as much as the 3M did to begin with.

Best thing you can do while it is new is remove it. If you are lucky with it being new, it will not pull the paint off. With a bit of age it will damage the paint during the removal process. Yew it protects the paint while it is on the coach, but in the end will cost a bunch to remove and you will still have to repaint.

Spider, when it happens to your coach, and it will, you sure won't call it BS then. If you don't believe my post, go over to the Monacoers yahoo group site and talk to the guys there and see if they think it is BS.

When I state something on this site, it is not BS and you can take that to the bank!

Well I was commenting on your real bad news about the film turning yellow and mildew spots after 4 or 5 years. As I stated my coach has film that is over 5 years old and still looks new. Maybe eventually it will do what you say but in my case and probably other owners your 4 to 5 year comment was BS....And you can bank on that.....

Time Out folks ...Please refrain from attacking other members.
Spider... some people have not had the luck you have had with their 3M mask. There are many factors that can be involved for the 3M to yellow or have mildew spotting... but just because it is BS to you does not mean it is BS for others.

I feel that everyone has a right to disagree - but please do so in a gracious manner.
Thank You
MonacoMama
