By: Marilyn Odendahl
Source: eTruth

August 3, 2011, WAKARUSA - Three years ago, the former Monaco Coach plant on Nelson's Parkway was at the losing end of a company-wide consolidation that left about 1,000 workers on the unemployment line and shuttered the facility.

Tuesday, the new Monaco RV in Wakarusa was the winner in a company-wide restructuring that will bring new production and create about 400 new jobs in 2012. Additionally, parent company Navistar Interational Corp. will invest more than $1 million to upgrade the local facility with new machinery, fixtures and IT infrastructure.

Thanks for the updates, DriVer. I've copied the links, etc. and sent them off to my HRRVC friends. Wakarusa is really closer than Oregon for factory service. Looks like a they're responding to the current financial situation among other things. As a long time HR owner and HRRVC member, I'm happy about the consolidation.

Indiana hosts the heart of the RV Industry and Monaco being there will bode well for a lot of people.

You are correct that getting to a factory service center In Wakarusa would be a lot closer than Oregon.

Do we know that the service center will also be moving?

There is another thread working where Moisheh told us that the service center and the technical support center would be staying in Coburg. Now that said with the larger Motorcoach facility now being in Wakarusa ... could a 2nd service center be a possibility?

You can bet they willpen a facility on Indiana for service. But I am looking at this news announcement in a different light. I feel for the 450 that will lose jobs in Coburg. This will be the second time they become unemployed. Imagine if you wqorked for the Old Monaco for 15 years. Lost your job and then a miracle happened. You went back to work thinking that with Navistar at the helm your future just might be bright. But alas you are back on the street with nada! I would think that one of the forces behind the move would be the millions in grants that Navistar will get from the State and County. Sad.

Wakarusa is a small town and it looks to be booming in the next year. Monaco is adding 400 jobs and Utilimaster is adding more 300 jobs and a second shift this year. Utilimaster is owned by Spartan Motors and they make delivery vans for UPS, USPS, FedEx, Frito Lay and others. And by the end of the year Spartan is moving their motorhome chassis devision there from Michigan.
