95 Dynasty cold start issues

Been offline with health issues for awhile. On the comeback now.

Last summer, while on a 6,000 mile round trip, I started having cold start problems. The old Commins needed excess cranking with boost assist to start. Later in the day or after the engine warmed up, it would start immediately. My dash preheat light never comes on. Can't remember if it ever did. Plugging in the block heater seemed to help. (At least in my mind.)

From what I've read, this can be any one of numerous things. Was just looking to see if anybody has a suggestion on what to do first,... then second, etc.

As always, any assist would be appreciated.
Jim

First thing I would look at is whether the fuel solenoid is pulling fully in as soon as you start cranking. You can likely see it operate from the rear with the rear controls.

You need to find outwhy your dash preheater light isn't working. If the intake preheater is not working, the engine will be difficult to start.

Regarding "don't start light",...Since it required no heavy lifting, thought I'd start at the engine temp sending unit. Schematic reads located right side, above air compressor. I looked. Not there. ???

Well Jim, I waited too long. It's been 105 - 120 degrees out here (Havasu) and the rig starts great. Thank you anyway.

Got a bunch of those.
Any ideas on how I can fool the controller into thinking it's cold?
Thx, Jim

"Wait to Start" dash light had a cut wire going to it. Have no idea why. Found both ends and butt connect. Light works as it should.
Found only one glow plug connected and the other had a broken terminal on top.
That's next on my agenda.
