Ď95 dynasty w/itty bitty fuel tank

although the manual says our dynasty should have a 130 gallon tank, our tank holds only 78 gallons.

not really a big deal for us since itíll only be used for short regional trips, but Iím wondering if anybody knows the story behind this discrepancy.

If you're sure of the capacity 78 gals. The answer may be in the axle weights.
Another 70 gals would add 500+ lbs ( liquid and tank weight ) to the front axle , and may put it over it's rating.
Have you weighed your coach full of fuel and loaded for travel?

It is a large tank with a flat bottom. Somewhere it mentions that the bottom 1/4 tank or so never gets picked up. If you think about it your tank is 8 feet long, 1.5 wide with a flat bottom. If the pickup tube is two inches off of the bottom you have a lot of fuel in those bottom two inches. And if your RV isn't level side to side when you refuel it can make quite a bit if difference if you fill it from the low side or the high side.

How do you know it only holds 78gal?
Did you run out, and that was all you could get in it?

thx for the feedback, much appreciated.

when i bought the coach in may and the owner told me it was 78 gallons i thought, ďheís gotta be mistakenĒ ... but having owned it for 20 years and 110k miles he probably knew what he was talking about.

since it was near-empty (the gauge and flashlight view into the tank agreed it was very low) i went straight to filling it up.

i donít have the receipt on hand at the moment but iirc it took ~70 gallons to the top.

hereís the tank from the bay access.

OK ; from your picture , I'd add .
Odd tank placement and fill access .

If that compartment is on , one side of the coach , it's the first coach I've seen where the fuel tank isn't between the frame rails to center the load.

Radacravitz,

I have a 95 34ft Dynasty and you post prompted me to measure my fuel tank.
It measures 66"x20"x24" or 18.26 cubic feet. This equates to 135 gallons.
On my last fill with my tank at 1/3 full ( verified by my dipstick ) I put in 75 gallons and it did not fill it right up. Probably take another 20 gallons to get it to the brim.
I think Monaco is correct on their figures. Also my coach is a centre door and the tank stops to allow space for the steps. Easy to see how the later coaches got 150 gallon tanks.

thx again for the feedback, always appreciated.

skip, the tank bay is driver side as in this pic.

dennis, thx for the info. iíd done a WAG before posting and guessed those ~ dimensions; after reading your post i measured and, yep, we have the same dimension tanks, so iím not sure what to think except, ďdo you have a **real** dipstick or a sawed off broom handle with two notches carved in it like i got ;-)

when i bought / filled the thing (on a level surface) the gauge was waaay below 1/3 tank so ... maybe the tank / dash gauges are off or ...?

iím glad to hear iíve got more than 78 gallons but i really would like to understand whatís what.

thx again for your feedback, guys, i feel better ... but confused ;-)

My 98 Dynasty is similar to that. It runs the full width of the RV and has fills on both side, which do come in handy.

Our trip home when we bought our 98 Dynasty it actually ran out of fuel at 1/4 tank on the gauge. Now I fill up at about 1/2 tank.

Takes forever to fill because of the foaming you think its full and it'll hold 30 more gallons in 30 minutes .. It would suck to run out of fuel on the maiden voyage ..
