'95 Monaco-Fresh Water Overflow Siphon

I am new to this MH business. I had my fresh water tank full to weigh my coach and now it is only 3/5 full, according to the red lights, even though none has been used. I did notice water coming out of my overflow after a jerky stop in my driveway.

My questions are:

How far down INSIDE the tank does the overflow tube extend? I assume this is what limits the siphoning from emptying the tank completely.

Is there any thing I can do to avoid losing water from a full tank due to siphoning?

Thanks.

donBaja: I had the same problem with my Safara Trek when brand new in 2003. I put a rubber plug in the overflow line. This stopped the loss of water. I have to be careful when filling the tank, and stop filling before the tank is full so that I don't over fill the tank and rupture it. You can hear the tank filling and stop before the water enters the fill pipe. I also pull the rubber plug once a week and flush thru it to prevent stagnation and contamination of the water. This gives me a full tank of water. There is a relief hose next to the fill opening, so the tank is still vented.

I find that the red light gauges are frustratingly inaccurate. So much so that we really don't know how full or empty any of the tanks are at any given time. We know roughly how long it takes to fill the black and gray tanks, and about how much water we should have used during that time.

I have heard that there is a better tank gauge set up. I haven't really done anything about investigating it. It is on my 'dream list' to do something about someday.

When filling the water tank, I always fill it until water overflows out on the passenger side. Then I know for sure that the water tank is full. My Monaco manual states that water will leak out the overflow if I try to overfill the tank. I don't know how far the tube extends down into the tank.
