98 HR Endeavor basement door latch won't open

In the middle of a three month trip and the rear passenger side basement door won't open. It unlocks but the mechanism seems to be stuck in the open position but the latch won't release. Anyone eve have this happen? My tools and hitch lube etc is in there and I need them both. Any ideas?

Itís a bit destructive, but if yours is like my 2000, you can cut the steel latch striker from below.

I would check to make sure you are level. If off level, even a little, the frame could be off and your door will not release.

WesPearson,

I recently had the same issue with a bay door on the driver's side right next to the water compartment. I went to the opposite bay door on the passenger's side and crawled through to access the affected door. In my case, the lifting rod had dislodged from the locking mechanism. I reinserted it and was able to open the door afterwards. I secured the lifting rod because the nut securing it had worked its way loose.

If you do not have a lifting rod, just remove the bay door's inside panel and investigate what may be preventing the door from opening.
