99 42' Monaco Executive w/tag axle info needed!

99 42' Monaco Executive w/tag axle info needed!

We need everybodies input on the strengths and weaknesses of the following. Your input will help us make this purchasing decision.

We're thinking about buying a 99 42' Executive w/tag axle next week. We currently own a 38' DutchStar DP on a Spartan w/300 Cummins that we love and bought sight unseen on ebay. We're do-it-yourselfers whenever possible We've been shopping Monaco/HR on the internet for a long time. We realize the Executive is no Dynasty or Signature, but it is more affordable The one I'm airlining to look at this week is on a Roadmaster 10 bag/shock chassis w/tag, non-AquaHot, 50000btu Surburban furnace, 450 ISM Cummins w/88,000 miles, 4000 Allison, 2 - 15000btu Domentic(sp?) roof airs/heat pumps, Michelins w/pms, 10000kw Onan diesel gen. on elec slide. I'm not sure what it is called, but there is a switch on the dashboard to release and/or raise the tag axle. It comes w/all the books and various receipts. It is a consigned unit, but I'll be able to talk to the current long time owner.

Thanks in advance

Actually that Executive is just below the Signature and above the Dynasty in the Monaco line. The Executive is built on the series s chassis which arguably the strongest chassis used in a non bus conversion motorhome. My wife & I have lived full time in an '03 Signature for the last 3 years and could not be happier.

It's all about the maintenance.
1. Ask for all service records & make yourself a chart of all service items.
2. Ask that an oil sample & trans. fluid sample be pulled & sent to Blackstone labs for analysis.
3. Check the coolant for DCA levels & evidence of coolant replacement. Should have been replaced at least twice.
4. When was trans fluid changed & has it been changed to Transynd?
5. When were front wheel bearing packed?
6. When was differential oil changed?
7. Has air dryer filter been changed at least every 2-3 years.
8. Check date codes on tires. Replace at 7 years even if tread ok.
9. Air filter should be changed every 2-3 years even if not restricted.
10. All oil, filters, chassis lube should be done at least annually and the drive shaft & universal joints should be done semi-annually.

Good luck & ask a lot of questions. It is a wonderful coach.

Lonestarace...
I am not sure too much can be added if you follow Steve O's List of recommendations. I am sure you will love the rig if it passes the above checklist!

By the way...Is this the rig?

I am not sure of the system on 99 exc. I know that on my 06 sig. the tag will only operate when the coach is in travel mode, there is a green light indecator on the console. When the travel light [mode] is shown you can operate the tag. Of course this is done at 3 to 5 miles per hour, because your making a tight turn. On the signiture the tag will return to travel automatically above 7 miles per hour, I always turn it off. Good luck, JLJ
