A inline fuel pump for a 325 cummins Diesel????

I have a 2007 Holiday Rambler 35 ft. with a 325 cummins diesel. The unit currently has a low pressure fuel pump which pulls the fuel from the tanks (forward) back to the high pressure pump for the injectors. I have had to replace the high pressure pump already (under warrantee) but have heard that I should mount an additional pump near the tank to push the fuel to the "pull" pump. My question...Is this a good idea (cost near $800.00)? Any comments would be appreciated. Our Wings

I think it is a great idea....but see no way in the world that it could possibly even remotely cost you $800. I'd get another estimate...that is you can not do it yourself

I worked on Dodge Cummins for 14 years before retirement and have replace more than my share of the electric lift pumps. Even with the short pull from the tank to motor on a P/U these pumps didn't last. Dodge's fix was to mount the pump in the tank same as the gas engine P/Us.
The $800 you quoted was that the Cummins pump ? Or was that parts and labor?
You can use a different electric pump to move the fuel from the tank, but if the Electronic Control Module is hooked up to activate a different brand of pump it may continually set a " Lift pump voltage out of range " code.
Is your current pump moveable ? Or like the P/Us of 03>05 mounted direct to the side of the fuel filter housing?

I use a lift pump mounted near the engine that has two filters below it. One for water and the other for fuel. The original filters are still used and are located before the lift pump. One of the features of the particular lift pump that we have installed is that it supposed to remove any air from the diesel fuel. deSanford
