Hi Ed -
As Dave already pointed out, if it's the compressor, lines or the coils themselves, it's a Dometic/Coleman/whoever-deal. Most repair-facilities won't/can't guarantee a good job when cutting into the plumbing to replace components or recharge lines. The AC-mfgr has the special tools/know-how to get the job done right (ok, let me add: 'most' of the time).
Parts like the start-capacitor, fan-motor and ancillary items, however, can and are usually replaced locally. Those are bolt-in or wired-in parts by design. They are typically the things that fail most often, and therefore are made easier to access.
I don't think it's necessarily a Monaco problem per se, but more the vendor. Sure, Monaco spec'ed the AC unit(s) that go on top, but they don't build 'em. Looking thru the other forums, I see a lot of those AC-mfgrs getting bashed for the same thing too.
It's probably more of an industry-issue, perhaps related to bouncing an appliance around for mile after mile. Overall design-quality?
All that said and done, I know it doesn't make it any better for you. I'm sorry to hear your AC has failed, hopefully you'll get it back again and soon.
Thanks!
Ron
