Added Sirius/XM radio to the Windsor!
I finally got around to adding satellite radio to the MH. I have been putting off doing it thinking it would be a lot harder (and more expensive) than it actually was.
I bought the Onyx vehicle package, part # XDNX1V1, which included the radio, vehicle dock, mounting brackets, and outside antenna. I also bought the FM Direct Adapter, part # FMDA25, since my radio did not have an Aux input. I got the equipment from Sirius/XM. I got the main package for only $19.95, plus another $19.95 for the FM adapter. The regular price on the radio vehicle package from Best Buy was $79.95, plus $19.95 for the FM Adapter! I already had Sirius/XM in my truck so adding the radio in the MH was an additional $9.95 per month.
The hardest part was mounting the antenna on the roof. I drilled a hole through the front cap above the center cabinet, fished the wire across to the windshield post on the driver's side, down the inside of the post, under the dash, and over to the radio. Of course, I had to remove the trim from the post to get the wire down. The antenna uses a magnetic mount so I had to cement it to the fiberglass roof. I filled the hole in the roof with Dicor self-leveling sealant #502LSW.
Hookup was a snap! You pull the radio out far enough to get to the back, unplug the antenna connector and plug it into the female connector on the FM Adapter, plug the male antenna connector from the FM Adapter into the back of the radio, and plug the output cable from the Adapter into the Onyx radio dock. You then find a channel on the radio where there is not a station, only static, then go into the menu on the Onyx radio and set it to the same channel. The final step is to call Sirius/XM (or do it on-line) and activate your radio using the ID number.
I love satellite radio so I'm now I'm a Happy Camper!

We have XM receivers in both our TV and trailer. One thing you might want to add is the FM Direct Adapter FMDA25 this eliminates static and FM Interference with the FM Direct Adapter. It directly connects to the the FM output on car docks to the FM antenna of your vehicle and nearly all static is eliminated. I have done this will all 3 of our instillations.

Guess you missed it but we did use the FMDA25 adapter. Thanks anyway!

Nice job plus it puts the controls at a more convenient level.

Joe.....I first bought XM for the MH and added the XM unit that interfaces with my existing Pioneer radio. I later bought a docking unit like yours for my work car. Being somewhat cheap, I bought additional docking units for my boat and motorcycle. Since I never used any of the three vehiocles at the same time, I just moved the one unit around and only paid the one price for it and the $9.95 for the motor home. It was really great to have it on the motorcycle and when we went boating. The docking units were about $25.00 each. I should have put a docking unit in the MH, but was new to XM and didn't realize I had to pay for every radio.
My point, if you add a docking unit to your truck, you can eliminate the $120.00 a year for the extra unit and just move the head around.

My truck has the XM built into the radio package. I have ordered another vehicle docking kit for the toad, my wife's car. It will be great to have XM in her car.

Nice set-up Joe. In my case I snaked my Sirius radio antenna lead in through the front cap at the same time as my satellite dish install, so one less hole through the roof.

I agree with Don. When we got our "add-on" Sirius radio about 7 years ago it came with a "Home Antenna kit" and a second "Vehicle Mounting kit". So we have just one radio subscription and move the radio around the various "mounts" depending on where we are and/or where we're going.
I agree with lenkerb - once you've had satellite radio on a trip across the continent, there's no going back to AM/FM radio.

Joe,
How did you run power to the XM Radio? Did you hard wire it in or did you put a 12 volt socket behind the dash?
I'm looking to put my radio in the same way you did.
Thanks
Attila

There was a 12 VDC outlet on the right side of the center console near the floor. That made it really easy!

Great job Joe. I've been thinking of Sirius radio. I currently use the music channels on my direct tv. But Sirius has many more channels. Thumbs up.
