Air Admittance Valves for Shower/Washing Machine?
Our coach is 10 yrs old and figured I'd replace all the AAV's for good measure. On our 2007 Dynasty Platinum 41' I've located the ones for the sinks (3 total).
Assumed there is one for the shower and washing machine somewhere? If so those are the ones I'm trying to locate. Location?
Occasionally get gray water odor recently and figured I'd change the AAV's for good measure. Always keep P-traps full, just deodorized, always keep tank valves closed, etc.
Seems most of the odor comes from the shower drain so that one is most suspect at this point.

They are probably connected to the roof vents -- The sink drain lines are smaller that the shower & washer drains, which requires more air than the mechanical vent can supply -- Bill Willard

I`ve never heard them called Air Admittance Valves, just Mechanical Vents -- Sink drains are 1 1/4 inch lines,& shower & washing machine drains are 1 1/2 inch drains -- That`s why they need to be vented through the roof -- I worked in the RV business for a very long time, & have seen the Mechanical Vents used in 1 1/2 inch lines, even did it myself when a roof vent was not an option -- The vent has to be in open air & not in a wall -- But again I`ve found them in walls with a few vent holes drilled in the wall -- If you only knew what is hidden in your coach, it would scare the heck out of you -- Happy RV`ing -- Bill Willard

'06 Dynasty - WE HAVE THEM on our shower, AND on our clothes washer/dryer.
The one for the washer/dryer is behind the unit. We have a cupboard with a couple of shelves above the unit, and there is an access "hatch" in the floor of the cupboard that lets you at least see behind the unit. It is there! We also have a removable panel in the closet immediately to the right of the unit that allows access for such things as changing the water hoses to the washer.
The one for our shower can only be accessed thru the back of a cupboard in the hallway. Virtually all of Monaco's cupboards have removable floors (usually just pry them up with a small screwdriver or knife blade) and removable side panels, and sometimes back panels whenever there is something behind that might ever need accessed. See if you don't have a cupboard that might allow access to the cavity behind the shower unit. Look at the shape of the shower enclosure and the shape of the walls around it, and you can quickly see where there is space provided for vertical plumbing.
Finally, I don't see any reason to believe that it would be worth the time, trouble or expense to replace those AAV's, unless you are experiencing problems. But if you have reason to believe they may be in trouble, definitely go for it.
Also, if you do access the area behind your washer, while you are in there you might consider replacing your hot and cold hoses, as they are now 10 years old and they don't have unlimited life. We replaced our with the type that have a stainless steel webbing around it, as they should have considerably longer life and failure resistance.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm no plumber either but have seen them referred to as AAV's (air admittance valves, auto-vents and the like) ... I want to say they are all basically the same thing and serve the same purpose but who knows ( https://www.nachi.org/forum/attachme...n-sink-aav.jpg)
I've read in several different places the cheap spring type most coaches have typically have a lifespan of 10 years so I thought I'd be proactive rather than reactive in replacing them since they are so cheap. Then again there is always a chance of replacing a good one with a defective one. Perhaps the 'if it isn't broke don't fix it' applies here. I already picked up 3 at Lowes as may just keep them as spares.
Good idea on the washer/dryer hoses ... I'd rather be proactive on those rather than reactive

I have had them go bad while boonie camping far from a store. Much better to stay ahead of maintenance at home than screw up a pleasant journey.

I just finished changing out our AAV valves. The rubber seals in them were questionable and at times we would get odors. Also our shower and washing machine both had roof vents. Which I also replaced with cyclone vents. We are headed out on a three week trip and did not want to deal with this at that time.
Still have the vacuum breaker to swap out. Have the cheap plastic version and replacing with a brass unit.
