Air Brake Question
I have a problem, but I don't know how severe it is. When I set my brakes, air leaks in/around the brake valve, the valve where the pull knob is. I can wiggle it and usually I can get the hissing to stop, but it is obviously still leaking air. The air pressure goes to zero after a day or two. How serious is this issue? When this leaks down to zero, have I lost my parking brake? I'm assuming this problem is pretty easy to fix with a new parking brake valve?

It is actually the opposite problem, you need air pressure in order to release your parking brake, so zero pressure will only ensure that you are going nowhere. Should it be fixed? Yes. Is it a big deal if don't get it fixed immediately? Probably not. losing pressure over a period of hours is nothing the compressor could not overcome. The concern, is that a catastrophic failure of the valve could possibly occur.

OK, thank you for the response. That at least helps me with my first fear, loss of parking brake while camping. It is a bit irritating that when I first start the coach, all the friggin' buzzers and alarms are sounding until it's up to pressure. I'll post a picture in a few minutes, maybe someone can point me in the right direction to the replacement part. I have an account at rvupgrades.com, maybe they have the part?

if the whole valve is needed you need to go to a heavy truck supply for a replacement. maybe its just a loose air line connection

yes, I've heard the 'hissing' for a moment at times when I park as well...
the other day I decided to 'test' my air brakes/emergency brake function...
- crank the coach
- allow the air to reach full 125+ psi
- on a flat surface, push in the yellow AIR BRAKES tab, to release the brakes
- keep the transmission in Neutral
- pump the brakes, and continue as the air pressure PSI starts to drop
- continue pumping the brakes, at which time alarms should go off ~ 60psi
- continue pumping the brakes, until the yellow AIR BRAKES tab pops out
it worked... this proves that the Air Brakes are working properly

Any big truck (semi) repair shop can ( if they are willing to work on a Motorhome) fix or you can repair yourself if good with that sort of thing.its a simple and common repair for them about 1hour labor plus the part. It could be a failing valve or just a loose connection. It should be fixed . Losing air pressure while driving will "set "your drive wheel spring brakes causing you to come to a quick stop where you are.
When you get some time check out how your brake system works by googling air brakes and how they work. You really should understand how this system works, for your own safety. I would bet your air dryer hasn't been serviced ...ever, and a brake test , part of which is described above should be done frequently A commercial driver must do those tests daily as part of the Pretrip inspection.

My father was a mechanic and I am very mechanically inclined. I do all my own work to all my vehicles. In fact, I have to put a new transmission torque converter solenoid in my daughter's Cherokee this week...
My parking brake is a pull knob. Here's a picture. I'm guessing it's a few screws and some vacuum lines? I do not think it is a loose hose, I believe it's a seal in the valve as I can move it back and forth and the amount of hiss changes. It isn't a hiss for a second, it keeps on hissing at different volumes depending on how I wiggle the knob.
I don't know if the air dryer has been serviced, but I have extensive service records for the RV. I just don't know if the air brakes were part of all these routine maintenance receipts I have.
I will perform the test today.

Related question, why does the air pressure gauge have a green and a red needle?
Yes I know pressure is low here, the alarms were going crazy while I was taking this picture.

If you only have the one air pressure gauge ; then one needle will indicate front air system pressure and the other rear.
JMHO: If your loosing all air pressure in a day or two, you have some serious leaks to attend to.
First step would be to contact your chassis builder for an air system diagram.
An air leak at the park brake control valve should only drain one of the two system tanks.
BTW: The connections on the Park brake control are air pressure lines, not vacuum, so bleed all air pressure from the tanks before removing any connections.

I guess Monaco will still have an air system diagram...
Both needles go to zero.

Well, naturally I can't find what I need when I need it. Some time back, I'd bookmarked the webpage for the parking-brake assembly in case mine failed again, but (like most of my mind) I can't find it now.
Anyways, I had a similar problem in that the valve-connection right at the switch was leaking. Made made by 'Nason', and as soon as you access the assembly, I believe the part number is on it. Or, maybe someone else will chime in with the exact part number. IIRC, I got my switch thru the old Wildwood-Monaco location (now Alliance). They'll probably have it.
Red & green - one is for the front air tank and the other for the rear. Which is which - again I forget .

It looks like it's just a few screws to pull that panel. I'll pull it up and see if I can find a part number.
Thanks for the info, my mind is gone today too, you are not alone.

RobbieH .. great , you are right , the valve is probably bad .. get a new one ( very common part ) the screws will loosen it and with access from below you'll move it down . There are several pressure. air lines going to it ..
if you are still losing air you need to trace the lines from the engine compressor to tanks to the brake cans and find the leak which is normally in the connections. I have found most Motorhome seem to lose air and are harder to find than my commercial tractor was but the tractor was very accessible .. not so much on the Motorhome. Sounds like your on your way to fixing this problem !
