Can someone tell me how the air cleaner comes apart? I'd like to check it to just see how dirty it is, but it doesn't appear to come apart easily.

This is on a 400 ISL Cummins.

Hey Bob,

I've got a 400isl on spartan chassis as well and from what I have learned so far it doesn't come apart. It come as the complete assembly outer housing and all.

My 2000 Diplomat has the sealed air filter. There should be replacement intervals listed in your owners manual for the chassis. Depending how many miles you have on your MH and where it's been driven [dusty areas], it might be time for a replacement if it's the orginal filter. Never try to clean the filter. A replacement filter is a lot cheaper then engine work.

Bob,

I have an 07 Dip and the filter is 1 piece. On my MH there is an re-setable air filter gage on the passenger side rear engine door, right below the dipstick. When you install a new air filter you reset it by pushing on the top. The air filter on mine is on the driverside rear, just take off the cap (3 screws) and pull and wiggle the old filter off. You will have to tug on it because it is tightly sealed.

Okay thanks.

Any ideas where the best (cheapest) place is to get a new one?

Try filterbarn.com and see what they have. I found the best price there for a new one.

CA7230AH8503 $103.79 with free shipping. This fit my 2005 dynasty ISL400 on Roadmaster Chassis. I think Donaldson was the original supplier for my air filter.

Bob, on my 06 Diploamat it is in the last (electrical bay) on drivers side. Yes it is a large round black canister. I will have 3 thumb screws that keep the lid on. Onjce you get the lid off it will be stuck!!! Like the PP said the filter is hard to get out also. You will have to pull and twist. Once you get it out clean the housing well. Take the filter to any BIG truck supply and they can match it up. I am in Atlanta and I paid about 65.00 for a replacement Donaldson. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I went to the Filterbarn and they have the Fleetguard AF25354 filter for $33.28, what a deal. However, in the descriptions of removing the 3 screws I couldn't find any. Here's a photo of my filter:
and as you can see there's no screws, bolts or anything that allows me to open the canister. When I tried to pop the end/s off, they wouldn't budge. So I'm beginning to think as "jbilling" above mentioned this appears to be a complete assembly, although the manual and documentation I received with this coach states the replacement air filter is the AF25354 Fleetguard. The label that is on the outside of the filter assembly is unledgeable, so I have nothing to read that says what it is.

That filter does not come apart -- It is a one piece filter -- The one sjolt is showing is the correct one -- rvchassisparts.com also has that filter & the # is P53744802 -- Cost about $110.00 -- When you change the filter, tighten the hose clamps all the way to the turbo -- They are probably loose -- Bill Willard

I don't think you got the right filter as your filter should at least reach $100 or more. Your filter looks like mine. ($103) Undo the spring loaded clamps that go around the filter. You then remove the whole cannister from the inlet pipe and outlet pipe. You need to loosen the clamps that are around the inlet and outlet fittings. You then jiggle and wiggle the inlet and outlet "hose" from the filter. Measure the filter from one end to the other and then measure the distance to the inlet and outlet intakes. Your filter is a one piece and does not come apart as noted above. Also, when you put the new filter in make sure YOU TIGHTEN THE CLAMPS AND THEN RECHECK THEM AFTER A FEW HOURS OF RUNNING. You can do some major damage if the intake to the engine comes loose. (as Bill said above)

I won't get into the discussion on which filter you have but even if it can be opened only do so if you plan on replacing it. If you remove the filter and re install you may drop dirt inside where it can be ingested into the engine. This is an absolute no no for diesels and can cause major damage. Change filters either by the filter minder readings or by time intervals as listed in your owners manual otherwise leave it alone.

How many miles on the filter? You should have a differential gauge across it that tells you when it's stopping up. Pull it out and you should be able to look at the partial side.
If you can buy that filter for $30 jump on it but that ain't the filter you have.
