Air Conditioning Problem

I have a 1999 Windsor. The front air conditioner quit on me awhile back and I probably didn't do a good job of fault isolation, and ordered an air conditioner from Visone so it would be compatible with my 4 button controller. The new one does not work, the same as the original. The fan runs but the compressor doesn't kick in and there is no cooling although the controller says cool. The rear A/C works normally, so I switched the dip switches to make the rear A/C zone 1 and the front A/C zone 2. The back unit worked and the front unit was still fan only, no cooling. The only thing I can think of is the temp sensor thinks the zone is cool enough. I guess I will order a replacement 4 button controller. Any thoughts?

You are probably on the right track. Thermostats do fail so if the internal contacts are bad going the front a/c, that circuit is the same no matter how you designate the zones. If you can access the wires on the back of the tstat, you could try switching compressor circuit 1 and 2 and see if the problem follows which would confirm a bad tstat.

It does appear to be a communication break down between
your thermostat and front A/C .
It must be getting a fan only signal .
Ck the plug on back .

We had a 99 HR with that set up and I took the thermostat
apart and cleaned it up .
Careful as it has a bunch of little copper contacts that need
to be re sprung
Worked fine after that or there is a guy on ebay that rebuilds
them .

Mice have been known to chew on those wires .
