Air-Dump Everything
I'm trying to replace the Air Dryer Filter (the 6" x 5" dome-filter at the right-rear of my engine compartment, attached to a mount stamped 'Wabco'), but I can't get it to budge.
The filter was stuck on my Endeavor too til I realized I needed to dump all air first . So...
I pumped the pedal down til no air left at brakes. Disconnected the little leveling pump up front and drained its tank.
Pushed 'Air Dump' button on Leveling Panel but no air came out anywhere. Should it?. My Endeavor had 2 little valves that were clogged with mud-daubers. Do I have them here?. The coach looks like it's still got air in the leveling, it's sitting higher.
I have the PowerGear air-only leveling system, and still learning its ways so maybe I'm going at it wrong.
I'm stumped.

There should be a check valve so when coach is setting and tanks that are monitored on the dash leak out, the leveling system will stay charged up by that small air compressor up front. But the rest of the system is empty.
When you pumped the foot brake, that bled out all the air in the air dryer. Your gauges should read zero. But your leveling should still work if your electric compressor is working correctly.
try this. Plug the compressor back in, and let the air build up, does the 'air dump' work then? (gauges on dash should still read zero)

Tank drains up front. Open all of those to relive pressure.

^^This is what I do. Jackstands under the coach then drain the tanks so the system is empty. Good to empty the tanks on occasion anyways to keep them dry and clean, moreso in more humid environments.

That cartridge can be tight. It's like an oil filter, if the last guy to change it, over tightened it (and it gets tighter by itself over time) it can be hard to remove.
You will need a strap wrench. This is what I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

John,
OP is thinking the dump tube for the air leveling may be clogged. The only way he's going to know if it's clogged is to fill the tank back up and try the air dump switch, me thinks. Pulling the pin on the dump tank won't check the leveling system dump tubes.
Maybe I'm missing something or I misunderstood the question.

I think you are right. Two separate but related issues

One of those things.
Turned out to be a simple solution to the AirDump issue. Has to do with a loose nut behind the steering wheel... as in, ya gotta turn the leveling panel on first! . Was following my previous experience with the Endeavor - just turn on the key and push the dump button. Tried to pass this off to wife as another 'System Test', but she knew better .
Anyways, got everything aired down but filter was still too tight (Guess the Onan generator oil-filter installer moonlights for Monaco). Broke my new rubber strap wrench from Home Depot in the process. Guess I'll just Amazon the one you suggested, CountryB.
Thanks!

they can be tight. Be sure you're turning it the right way.

This air-leveling system is really confusing me. Please help me understand...
1) The 2 big tanks (front wet/dry and rear dry) are for the brakes and the ride-height air-springs, right?
2) The little pump/tank at the right front of coach is for small adjustments to the same air-springs when parked, right?
3) Y'all are saying that the big tanks were what i needed to dump. So why did the chassis not drop until I pushed the 'AIR DUMP' button, even tho I had all 3 tanks empty?
In other words, where was the air that held the springs up til then?

The ride height valves are holding the air in the suspension system. As the MH rides over the road, the ride height valves constantly add or remove air to maintain a set height.
When you dump, you are by-passing the ride height valves thru the dump valve and down it comes.

You might try this adjustable one, as it works for both the air dryer filter and the oil filter. I bought mine from the SnapOn dealer years ago. I see it at the SnapOn Store for $20.25.

If it has not been changed in some time and is rusted to the housing you will need one of these.

If you look at the diagram you will see that the air leveling system is isolated from the air brake system by the "protection valves".
When your in travel mode the HWH solenoid allows air to flow in and out of airbags controlled by the ride height valve ("cv" in the diagram). When your in leveling mode, the cv ports are blocked and the leveling is controlled by the HWH controller. If the air tanks were to empty (leak down, or by you draining tanks) the electric air compressor can still put air into the leveling system but that air can not fill the tanks since there is a check (protection) valve at the tanks.
I hope this helps explain the system some.
