My air horns quit working and service guy says they can not be serviced, only replaced. When I push the horn button the air pressure goes down and I hear a kind of buzzing but certainly not a horn. Any ideas?

What brand..I know Grovers come apart and thats the way you tune them. Might not have enough air through the 12volt solenoid valve to operate.

I really think Air Horns can be rebuilt----have you heard of Air Horns of Texas?-----search them and I think their website has kits. As above it may be a brand thing---Grover yes, Hadley---I cannot imagine that you cannot get parts. Also check the solenoid as suggested.

Follow the line that feeds air to the horns back to the supply.

A solenoid may be right on the horn----or near the air source----or where the air line goes through the body to the horn.

Sorry for the late reply, have you found the problem?
On my '96 Safari the horn solenoid is on the firewall/bulkhead behind the "hood", yours may be similar.
It is near the center and made from white plastic, with 2 black plastic air lines connected with brass fittings (one on the bottom and one out one side), plus 2 wires.

Sorry about not following up, I have not had an opportunity to even look at them as the coach is in storage and I can't work on it there. Will have to wait until I can get away at the end of the month.

I bought a pair of horns at a swap meet. One wasn't working, so I replaced the plastic diaphragm part with the plastic from a tool package. You know the kind. The ones that get your blood flowing just to get the tool out. You may have try different thicknesses of the plastic, but mine has been working for over 10 years since I replaced the plastic.

Your horns may be built different than mine. They are 10" Chrome and loud. If the plastic doesn't work, try thicker or thinner so it vibrates just right. If one horn is still good, compare the plastic to what you can find. Maybe even a piece from a soda bottle. I left them on my 2500 Ram and put a 42 year old AhoooGaaa horn on my Breeze.

Personally I would not look for the solenoid, you have told me it's working as designed.. (yes, you really did)
The air horn system consists of the following.. (And I'll comment)
Compressor (Working)
Air tank (Working)
Hoses (some are working)
Switch (Working)
Solenoid (Working)
More hose (Suspect)
and the horns themselves (Prime suspect)
They, are also the easiest part of the system to replace.
now, what did you say?
You said when you press the button the air pressure goes down
If the compressor, air tank or hoses leading to the solenoid were at fault, you'd have no pressure to go down
If the solenoid was not working (or the switch) the pressure would not go down
This leaves the hose from the solenoid to the air horn (Failure is rare) and the horns themselves (Failure is common relative)
So that's your problem. You could check the hose by listening for air at the horn when button pressed. (or by pulling the hose and pointing it at something)
I do admit a solenoid not opening fully MIGHT cause this problem.
