Air Levelling Compressor

My 08 Dynasty has air levelling. Normally when camping on soft ground the 12 volt compressor will come on every so often if I leave the control panel on auto level. It stopped doing that back in October. Have not used the MH since. I looked for a fuse and found the 20 amp CB in the front run bay. According to the placard in that bay the compressor is right behind that bay. Could not find it. Monaco said it was directly behind the gennie . Nope. I was following some threads on compressors for tag lifts and air levelling both here and on Yahoo. Rex posted a linbk to one on Ebay as did another poster ( what would we do without Rex) One person found his above the front axle. In the meantime Monaco told me to rock the unit and see if the compressor starts. Sure!! Have you ever tried to rock a 42 ft. Dynasty. Maybe Superman!! So I got out my air jack and dragged it underneath to find a good spot to jack up the left side. LO and behold there on the left frame rail was a bracket and the compressor. I moved my trouble light and one of the wires was pulled out of the connector. In their wisdom Monaco did not fasten those wires to anything and I guess the strain was too much. 2 minutes later I had a new connector and voila the compressor runs just fine!! I should celebrate with a brew! Had visions of a dead compressor or worse yet the computer board that runs the whole setup. I am a believer!!!

You are so lucky. Mine is located just forward of the drive axle and gets splashed by dirt and grit and stuff. Mine finally stopped working. Those compressors are $285 each and they do sell some replacement rebuild kits but not the brush block which I needed. I found a brand new compressor on ebay and got it for a real good price. I then went to a place that builds airconditioning ducts and had them make me a ventilated galvanized tin box to fit over the compressor to protect it.

Mike: I am disappointed. A hot rodder should have had that box made from stainless!!! And polished! But seriously who would design a vehicle with an electric motor driven device where it is exposed to dirt, mud and water???

Especially a compressor that is used in a dental office machine or a beverage machine. It was full of grit. You should look at yours and see how exposed it is. maybe that is why they moved it up front. Mine is right by the drive axle tires. I made a 5 sided box 10.25 X 10.25 by 6 high. I replaced the four bolts that came down and held the compressor platform on the bracket with longer bolts so they would fit through the box and hold it in place. I drilled several holes in the bottom of the box for ventilation and drains. I would have made it out of stainless but it still shines in the galvanized tin.

If anyone wants to file away what compresor it is it is a Thomas Part # 405AD38/12

You can see it here

Ross, I can email you a picture of the box I had made. It was real simple.
