Air valve

I have air leaking out of a valve when you turn the key on. The valve is mounted under the front right next to the front suspension dump valve. The valve has a electic selenoid on it looks like it has an adjustment on it. Does any one know what it is or what its function is.

Thanks,

A picture would minimize the guessing.

Sounds like the step cover valve. It should have three 1/4" air lines connected and is a blue MAC valve. It probably has dirt in it and can be taken apart by removing the cover and flushed with Super Lube spray or similar. Be careful of the small parts inside. Be sure to dump all air before disassembling. Be careful if you need to adjust the rate screws on the side as it is easy to cause step over to slam to the stops violently if you open the screws too much.

I don't know what year your coach is, but if it is somewhere in the mid 2000's, it might be the solenoid for the pneumatic seal around your entry door.

I took a picture of mine, a little while back, as I wanted to see how to adjust it, and to check to see if it was working and at what pressure. I was trying to see if I could reduce the wind noise from the door, and wound up setting it at 6 psi. That's more than you asked for, but hopefully it might at least help you identify what you are looking at.

OK no step cover. How about a vacuum generator run off air pressure using a venturi effect. I don't have that type but I know older Monacos had it. I also know when they fail most replace with the pump type.

K7JV I have a question for you... I also have wind noises from my entry door. Is there a pneumatic seal around my entry door? I've never heard of that before now! Can you explain to us how that works? I have a 2007 Monaco Diplomat 40 SKQ with a 400 Cummins.
Thank You very much!

Air valve

Thanks BtDt. you are right. It is a venturi for vacuum for the cruise control.
Thanks,

Hi, Tom

It is on more than the Sig's. It is on our 2006 Dynasty, so I would expect that at least the Exec's would have it, as well, although I don't know about the Camelots, Diplomats, etc. But, with the changes in the Monaco "line-up" after 2006, it is possible you might have it. Look for the solenoid valve that I showed in the picture. It would likely be in the front compartment of the coach, in the vicinity of the air tank valves and the air horn solenoid valve. The picture is a little hard to decipher, as I took it, holding the camera under it, looking straight up, rather than front-on or top view. (It's much easier for me to see what is on the bottom of something down low, like that, if I take a picture of it, rather than try to get my head upside down, below it. I often let my camera do my "looking" for me, in tight spaces.)

The solenoid is energized when the key is on, and the transmission is not in Neutral. It admits up to 5 psi air to the rubber seal (tube) around the fixed part of the door opening. it is supposed to inflate against the door when it is closed and the coach is in gear, to better seal the opening around it. We were cautioned to always have the door closed before putting the coach in gear, so that the seal would not be damaged by closing the door on it, while it is already inflated.

I tested the pressure with an old automotive pressure/vacuum tester. I energized the solenoid with 12V, with the gauge on the output hose, and adjusted the valve for 6 psi, actually. Unfortunately, I actually wound up lowering the adjustment to 6 psi, rather than raising it. I was trying to improve on the noise level, but since I actually went the other way, I'm not expecting any improvement.

Good luck. I hope you have one. Also, I saw where a friend with a similar door, not a Monaco product, however, used some PVC tubing that he cut lengthwise, and attached to the side of the coach, so it curved out and back over the hinge to change the airflow along that edge of the door. He said the results were remarkably good. I've not tried that, yet. It would take some effort to make it cosmetically acceptable.
