Since my Magnadyne radio is unreliable I am considering the Pioneer navigation / CD / DVD /Radio system to put in my 07 Diplomat. Has anyone installed a Pioneer system? How was the install and how do you like it.
Any comments would be appriciated.

Del:
Just saw your question regarding the Pioneer Nav/rad/CD system and while I can't address your question regarding installation in the Diplomat I can provide some feedback on the electronics. We purchased new a 2009 Providence 40X in March of this year with the Pioneer system, model AVIC-7010 and are now awaiting the 3rd replacement. Original unit the touch screen stopped working. Second unit started "rebooting", (this is a windows based system) as we were traveling and sometimes rebooted 3 times in 1.5 hours. Our unit is now back at the dealers getting replaced again. Do we like the unit, yes, great when working but if this is the normal failure rate........
Good luck in your quest

Thank you for you input Ron, I really appriciate it. I hope they find the problem because it sounds like the Magadyne.
I have only had Alpine in the past with no problems (CD & Radio not Nav). I have heard that Pioneer makes the best Nav systems.
Please let us know if your new unit works OK.

Del and Lori.
I have a Pioneer AVIC-D3 navigation/radio/DVD player installed in mine. Works well.
I had it installed by Car Toys. The only modification I made was to tilt the flat screen up about 10 degrees so that I could see it a bit better from my driver seat. That was simple.
See attached:
It is a double din unit, which is what my Magnedead unit was.

hardy1000.....I installed the first generation of the Pioneer unit, Avic D1 in mine. It was 2 din and the Magnadyne was 1.5 din. I had to enlarge the hole a little. I also bought the XM attachment for mine. I really like it. It announces the turn over the radio speakers and makes it easier to hear. I also bought the steering wheel remote. It gives you several functions besides the volume. One of the functions will make the map repeat the next turn and distance.
The unit will set waypoints for multiple stops on one trip. I also like the phone book feature that finds campgrounds by their phone number.
The radio is was easy to install. It requires that you connect one connection to the parking brake switch so that it knows you are stopped when accessing the screen. I called Pioneer tech support and they had me run that wire to a toggle switch and the other side of the switch to ground. It works fine, but you can't cheat the system. It also knows when you're moving and prevents mapping while on the move.
