From what I understand on the newer AquaHots the elect and diesel are controlled
by one thermostat that tells them when to come on .
The earlier models have 2 thermostats one for elect and one for diesel
The elect comes on first and if it can't keep up with demand then the diesel fires up
you could easily think some thing was wrong with the diesel burner
I'm not at all sure when they changed but I'm pretty sure that
lonestarpyro's coach and my 03 coach have the older set up .

Just for info sharing, my '05 has a single thermostat. When the AH calls for heat, both electric and diesel fire in unison if both switches are on.
My coach is an 02 and has ONE electric for high and one for low.
The electric handles all hot water and heating until the demand is for
more than it can handle, then the burner kicks in.
Different models out there, and it is possible to burn out or have the
electric burner fail, then the burner will kick in all the time.
