I have a 2001 Executive, with a aqua hot 431. I have been running my system constantly for a few weeks on Diesel. was running great, down to 18 at night, and between the aqua hot and nu heat floors, we were comfortable. (Cold in WY) The AC side works fine, just not warm enough. Starting a few days ago, it will fire and run between 5 and 20 min on diesel, then the light goes out and the diesel stops running. When I restart it, it's the same. I have a full tank, and when running I hear a dripping/gurgling in the tank. Do these have a return line? The system was serviced last September in MN.

Is this the filter in the fuel bay?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Tom.

Usually in the fuel tank compartment. Small filter...about 6' tall and 4" round. One line in, one out. Spin on type, may or may not have a plastic bowl bottom, both types were used. If you get the number on it NAPA can cross it for you.

Go here and register (free) Roger is the guru when it comes to aqua-hot systems. The forum is open and you will get some professional help. Forums

Before you go there take a look at your diagnostic box and see what is lit up. It should be on one of the ceiling bays near the aqua-hot.

Tom

There is a diesel fuel 'return' line from your Aqua-Hot to the fuel tank.

Tom, time exactly how long that red light stays on for. On my MH if it goes off three minutes after I turn it on then it is a "failure to light" in my burner and this normally means I need to change the fuel nozzle which is normal maintence. The other thing to check is the warning lights on the Aqua Hot electronic box which is attached to the overhead in a basement storage compartment. Those LEDs can tell you all kinds of things.

Tom

I had a similar problem last year when the weather got cold. In talking with my father, a retired semi driver, he suggested I use a fuel treatment because of the effect the cold weather has on diesel fuel. The addition of the fuel treatment did solve the problem for me. The aqua-hot worked as advertised.

Thanks for all the help. I changed the filter, no avail. I have a aqua hot tech coming in the am. Don't have to much time before the weather gets ugly tomorrow night, and stays below 30 for a few days, so need it fixed.

I'm late for the Texas run, but heading next week.

Thanks for all the input. I contacted an aqua hot specialist in Longmont, CO. John Carrillo. He drove to Cheyenne for the service call. My unit was chattering before stopping, he stated that it was the control unit. he put a new control box on, yearly serviced the unit and let me watch/showed me how to do it myself next year.
Excellent service, good guy and reasonable. He said if i'm in the area next year his usual fee for yearly is 185 complete.

Thanks again, Tom.

Ouch, the dreaded silver control box.....

Not the "usual" behavior of that part failing - other than being flaky. Glad they got it diagnosed and fixed!

For future reference AquaHot charges about $773 for the box, Roger Berke charges $700. Both new. BTW Roger also offers fully rebuilt burner assemblies on several very interesting terms.

There is a guy on eBay that rebuilds the silver control box, been doing so for a year or so... It is user frerichselectronics item number 250680126499 or just search for "webasto box" on eBay. He charges $420.

Just FYI.....

I paid 750 to him for a new box. I think two year warranty.
