Aquahot boiler low on coolant

Boiler was not drawing coolant back into reservoir. Replaced defective cap with a Stant 13lb pressure/vac, filled and tested. The res tank then filled but did not draw any coolant to replace the lost amount. Back to the drawing board.
I puzzled as to why the res tank did not draw any liquid back into the boiler. So I removed the return line elbow fitting and discovered there was nothing connected to it. Looking into the tank, I found the straw that was supposed to fit into the bottom of the fitting. The thing could never have worked properly.
