Has anyone performed their own maintenance on an AquaHot system. We have a new coach with an AquaHot 450DE system that looks like it needs to have the fuel nozzle replaced. The coach is "new" but it probably set for several months (pre bankruptcy unit) and I guess the systems didn't get much exercise. Our AquaHot is putting out a light white smoke on startup and smells like it is burning rich - diesel fuel smell. I am told that the fuel nozzle is probably starting to plug up so I think it needs to be serviced: replace fuel nozzle and fuel filter and check to see that the fuel pressure regulator is putting out the required pressure. Has anyone done this themselves? Thanks for the help.

Lew,

I think you'll be disappointed when you spend the time and money to service your Aqua Hot system and discover you still have the same symptoms. Even when working perfectly, Aqua Hot's have bad breath (burning diesel smell - which, after all is what you're doing) and noisy burners and some white smoke when they first start up on a cold day. That's the nature of the beast (despite what the sales guy told you).

And yes, we've had our's professionally services and I didn't notice a bit of difference in operation after the service.

I would agree with your assessment that your Aqua-Hot probably needs a new nozzle. If the unit is not used, it will normally clog the nozzle. We usually replace the fuel filter too, but may not be needed in your case. You will get optimum life from the nozzle if you run the diesel at least once per month.

Your unit should still be under warranty if there are any additional problems. Check with Aqua-Hot for more details. They will need your model number, serial number and date of purchase.

It is not too hard to service the unit yourself. There are shop manuals on the Aqua-Hot website to assist you. I have also written a number of guides and how-to-do-it descriptions that you will find on the group below.

There are a number of online web stores that provide filters, nozzles and other parts. Search for: Hydronic RV heater repair parts.

Roger- do you need to "join" that group to access the Files section?
IIRC you don't need to receive emails, but can set up preferences to simply check the webpage from time to time, yes?

I just approved your membership. Welcome to the group.

You need to be a member to access the files section. You can set up your preferences to get no email and just view the postings on the Internet.

Lew: I am of the persuasion that says there is nothing wrong with you Aquahot.

They naturally stink on startup and usually will make your neighbor upset if he smells it. And he will. Just let it run and all will be OK. Save your $$$ till it really needs work. And it will. Like stir pumps that fail. Plastic drain valves that leak. Have fun.....
