Atwood H/W tank cleansing

hi,
I have a 2006 La Palma, and lately have noticed a smelly water issue - and have narrowed it down to the hot water.

I have never cleaned the hot water tank and between reading and talking to other RVer's, I need to clean this out as it will be the source. I am told to rinse out with a hose, then used a vinegar solution to get scaling out.

My question is - how do you get the vinegar solution inside the hot water tank?

Got me stumped,... but hopefully I am not thinking of something!

Thanks,
JB

If you have a suction hose connected to your water pump, just stick the hose into the jug of vinegar and let-R-rip. If you don't have a suction hose and valve connected for winterizing and sucking RV antifreeze, disconnect the inlet line to the water pump and add a piece of vinyl hose, available at any home improvement store to use the water pump to do the transfer. The vinegar won't damage you water system and you can flush it out when the tank is cleaned out.

Atwood has a vinegar soak procedure in their manuals

1. Turn off your main water supply.
Drain you water heater tank. Reinstall drain plug.
Remove the pressure-temperature relief valve.
With a funnel use 4 parts white vinegar to two parts water.
(6 gallon tank that would be 4 gallons vinegar to 2 gallons water).

2. Cycle the water heater, letting it run under normal operation 4-5 times.
At no time do you remove the vinegar from the tank
Once this has been completed, remove the drain plug and drain the water heater.

3. With drain plug still removed turn on water supply and 'flush' WH Tank of sediment

4. Install drain plug....fill WH Tank with clean water OR leave drained if not going to be using WH.
